SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College women's soccer is back on the road this week, as the Falcons travel to take on the East Stroudsburg Warriors for the first time in their history on Wednesday, September 23^rd. The game is set for a 7:00pm ET start at Gregory-Douds Field at Eiler-Martin Stadium on the campus at East Stroudsburg.

The Falcons
Lackawanna (1-6-0) enters the game having recorded just one shot in its last two games, dropping a 5-0 loss to Bloomsburg last week and then a 6-0 loss at Shepherd over the weekend. The Falcons managed just one shot against the Huskies last Wednesday at home, getting outshot 31-to-1, which included 15 shots on target for Bloomsburg. On Saturday, the Rams scored three goals in the first and three goals in the second, peppering the Falcons' goal with 38 shots and holding Lackawanna without any shots. Read the full recap HERE.
 
Keeper Sophia Arvelo (Allentown, PA) had ten saves in goal for the Falcons.
 
Through their first seven games, the Falcons have given up 32 goals and scored one against their seven PSAC opponents. Lackawanna has 15 shots, 12 on target, a .800 percentage, but the defense is under constant pressure, giving up 208 shots, 97 on target. The opposition has 75 corner kicks to just three for the Falcons. Lackawanna has made 65 saves to just eleven from the opposition.
 
Isabella Caligiuri (Effort, PA) has three shots on target this season, while Grace King (Calvert County, MD), MacKenzie Seifried (Winfield, NJ), and Darexy Monroy (Pleasantville, NJ) each have a pair of shots this season. Kosi Nwozuzu (Queens, NY) has the only goal for the Falcons this year, coming in the win against Mansfield, while Aislyn Fitzgerald (Langhorne, PA) has the assist. Arvelo has 65 saves this year, posting a season-high 17 at then-#3 West Chester.
 
Head coach Juan Almonte, hired in July 2025, cobbled together a roster and competed for ten games last season, sometimes competing with just nine student-athletes, but the Falcons program made great strides, and coach Almonte hit the recruiting trail hard to find young, talented players.
 
Before coming to Lackawanna, coach Almonte was a volunteer assistant at East Stroudsburg, and, before that, an assistant with Marywood University in nearby Dunmore.
 
The Warriors
East Stroudsburg (3-3-1) enters this game after drawing at Shippensburg this past Saturday, 1-1. Despite outshooting the Raiders, 19-7, ESU found itself down in the 51^st minute. The Warriors rallied and scored a goal nine minutes later in the 62^nd to level the game, and neither side could find a breakthrough in the last 30 minutes.
 
In the current PSAC standings, #4 West Chester is first with 13 points at 4-0-1 in PSAC play. Shepherd, receiving votes in the latest national rankings, is second with 12 points at 4-1-0, while #22 Kutztown is 4-1-0 and also stuck on 12 points. Millersville is fourth at 3-1-1 and ten points, while ESU is fifth with seven points.
 
This year, East Stroudsburg has scored six goals, while their opponents have scored nine. The Warriors have 98 shots, 53 on target (.541), while their opponents have 94 shots, 49 on target (.521). The Warriors have 21 corners, and their opponents have 28. ESU has forced 47 saves on the year, and has made 40 as a team.
 
Senior forward Sophia Lowery is one of six different players to have scored a goal for ESU this year, and Lowery's goal came against Shippensburg this past weekend. Lowery leads the team with 19 shots this year, eleven on target, also a team-high. She has taken eight shots in her last two games, and she had a season-best five against Pace on September 6^th.
 
Junior defender/midfielder McKenna Chisolm has a goal this season, scoring the only goal in the win against Mansfield back on September 16^th. Chisholm had nine shots in that game, by far her season-high, and put five on target. She had four shots against Shippensburg, and she is second on the squad with 15 shots this year.
 
First-year midfielder/defender Kali O'Connell has a goal, coming against Pace this season, where she also set her season-best with five shots. O'Connell had 14 shots this season, third on the team, and five have been on target. She had three shots against Shippensburg this weekend.
 
Junior keeper Ava Perrone is the mainstay for the Warriors in between the pipes, having played every minute this year for ESU. Perrone has a 1.29 goals-against average and has made 37 saves, setting a season-best with ten saves against Millersville to start the year. She had nine saves against Pace, and she had eight saves against Kutztown. Perrone had three saves against Shippensburg this past weekend. Her clean sheet came against Mansfield.
 
The head coach for the Warriors is Tayler Jamison, hired this past March. Jamison was an assistant coach at Misericordia, before joining the Warriors, where she spent five seasons. During her time with the Cougars in Dallas, Jamison helped win three MAC Freedom championships and make four NCAA tournaments. Misericordia was 35-1 in MAC Freedom play in her tenure, going unbeaten in conference play over her final four years. She also was a lead trainer at Back Mountain Soccer Club and was the Director of Coaching in 2021-2022. She was an assistant coach at Washington University in St. Louis, where she helped guide the Bears to the NCAA Elite 8. Jamison is a PSAC graduate, playing at West Chester, where she helped lead the Rams to three NCAA tournament appearances, including two trips to the Sweet 16 and one Elite Eight berth. She transferred to WCU after spending one season at Division I Virginia Commonwealth University.
 
ESU was picked to finish sixth amongst the eight teams in the PSAC East. 19 players return from last year's team.

Next up, Lackawanna College will return home for a big contest against #3 West Chester University on Saturday, September 26^th. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm ET at Schautz Stadium in Dunmore, and it'll be the second time the Falcons and Golden Rams have faced off. West Chester won the first match-up, 6-0, earlier this month in West Chester.
