MANSFIELD, Pa. – Despite out-shooting its opponent, Lackawanna College women's soccer couldn't break through, while Mansfield University scored a goal in each half to lift the Mounties past the Falcons, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Mansfield University's soccer field.
Â
The Falcons (1-15-0) held a 15-13 advantage in shots, including eight shots on target, but Lackawanna gave up an early goal to the Mountaineers (2-16-0) in the second minute, then were chasing the game the rest of the way.
Â
Early in the second half, Lackawanna College threw everything it had at the Mansfield defense. The Falcons recorded seven shots in an eight-minute span, including three shots in one sequence in the 53
rd minute. A long throw-in found the feet of
Darexy Monroy (Pleasantville, NJ), who darted in from the left side of the box, drew the keeper over, and poked a ball back across goal to
Lindsey Tasker (South Abington Twp., PA), but Tasker stumbled as she went to set her feet, and the hesitation allowed Mansfield to recover. Tasker poked at it twice, getting denied both times, and a rebound ricocheted to
Tazjeane Bird (Upper Darby, PA), who was also denied by the frantic Mountaineer defense. The best chance of the game fell by the boards for the Falcons.
Â
Tasker had a shot at redemption a few minutes later, when
MacKenzie Seifried (Winfield, NJ) combined with Monroy on a nice run through the middle and left a ball on the right side for Tasker to run on to, but her shot was stopped once again. Five minutes later, Mansfield drew a foul at the top of the box in a dangerous area. The subsequent free kick deflected off the wall of Falcons and popped into the net to make it 2-0 in the 61
st minute.
Â
Grace King (Calvert County, MD) forced a save on a great dive in from the left, but the shot was saved, and Lackawanna couldn't threaten the goal the rest of the way, putting up four off target shots over the final 28 minutes.
Â
Tasker finished with three shots, all on target, in 46 minutes, while
Alana Alayo (Cherry Hill, NJ and
Isabella Caligiuri (Effort, PA) each posted three shots. Bird had a pair of attempts, as did Monroy.
Sophia Arvelo (Allentown, PA) had five saves for the Falcons.
Â
The loss ends the 2026 campaign for Lackawanna College women's soccer, its first against four-year competition and its first competing against PSAC opponents.
