The Lady Falcons opened the 2-day event on Monday against Division 1 NJCAA East Georgia State College. This would be the first of 2 teams from the State of Georgia Lackawanna would face at the classic.
The 1
st quarter saw a fast paced tempo as both teams were determined to quickly push the ball up the court. That tempo played in favor of Lackawanna, as they took a 13-6 lead, behind a 3-pointer from
Kyla Smith. A bucket by
Keyanah Price pushed the lead to 15-6, but East Georgia State converted on their own 3 to cut the lead to 15-9. They would add another 4 unanswered points to trim the lead to 15-13, forcing the Lady Falcons to call a 30 second time-out. Coming out the time-out, Lackawanna's defense forced the Lady Bobcats into difficult shots and when the buzzer sounded, the Lady Falcons would have a 17-13 advantage.
Keyanah Price kept things going, to start the 2
nd quarter, by driving strong to the basket and extending the lead to 19-13. On the defensive side of the ball, Price would not allow East Georgia State to drive inside and when they tried, they had nowhere to go. On the next possession,
Jazmin Wright converted a jumper increasing the lead to 8. After a Lady Bobcats free-throw,
Kyla Smith connected on another 3-pointer to give Lackawanna a 24-17 lead. East Georgia State would go a 9-4 run, cutting the lead to 28-26, until the Lady Falcons'

Briaunna McCullough wasted no time getting Lackawanna on the board at the start of the 3
rd quarter, when she connected on a wide open 3-pointer. The Lady Bobcats would get a basket of their own and connect on a free-throw to cut the lead to 34-29. McCullough continued her hot hand and connected on her 2

The 4
th quarter was a very physical one, as neither team wanted to let the other get to the basket easily. This meant the referees would be busy with their whistles, calling a number of fouls down low. East Georgia State would take advantage of this and slowly pull within 4 points of the Lady Falcons. They also were able to apply full court pressure causing Lackawanna to turn the ball over on a few occasions. However,
Ciaira Loyd took control of the game and led the offense to key points as the Lady Falcons pulled away from the Lady Bobcats to win their 8
th game of the season by a score of 63-56.
Briaunna McCullough led Lackawanna with 21 points, 12 coming from the 3-point line.
Jasmine Lewis,
Keyanah Price and
Kiana Williams combined for a total of 25 rebounds between them. The Lady Falcons have a quick turnaround as they will face South Georgia Technical College tomorrow at 1:00pm, in the 2
nd day of the Sea Devils Christmas Classic in Wilmington, NC. This will be the final game for Lackawanna before the holiday break.
