WBB: Monroe Spoils Sophomore Night In Non-League Romp

The Mustangs Got 50 Points From Bre Jefferson And Dominated From Start To Finish Against Lackawanna

2/19/26

SCRANTON, Pa. – Monroe University guard Bre Jefferson scored an astounding 50 points to pace Monroe past Lackawanna College women's basketball, 93-39, spoiling Sophomore Day for the Falcons on Thursday evening inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.

The Falcons (7-20) celebrated their seven sophomores before the game, but the Mustangs (20-6) were unflinching once the game started, outscoring the Falcons 29-4 in the first quarter, alone, before coasting the rest of the way.

Jefferson entered the game 49 points away from 1,000 for her two-year career, and exploded in the first half for 34 points. She made 14 shots, six more than Lackawanna College made as a team, and hit six three-pointers in the first half. She scored just five in the third quarter, but came back to life in the fourth, eventually crossing the 1,000-point barrier with a pair of free throws with just over a minute remaining. Her final stat line was 50 points on 19-for-53 shooting, including seven made three-pointers, along with eight rebounds and four steals. As a team, Monroe shot 33% from the floor, taking over 100 shots, including 70 attempts from downtown.

Meanwhile, Lackawanna College struggled on offense, shooting just 19% from the floor and 2-for-13 downtown. The Falcons had 24 turnovers, which Monroe turned into 24 points. Lackawanna was also outrebounded 78-to-49, with Monroe grabbing 41 offensive rebounds and scoring 39 second-chance points. Sophomore Alania Ortiz (Allentown, PA) led the charge for Lackawanna with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Desireé Nales (Allentown, PA) added five points. Canyah Randle (Scranton, PA) scored nine points off the bench and led the Falcons with 17 rebounds.

Lackawanna College has one more game remaining for the 2025-2026 season, as the Falcons are set to travel to take on Cecil College in non-region action on Saturday, February 21st. Tip is set for 1:00pm ET in North East, MD, and the game is the first of a doubleheader, with the men's teams following at 3:00pm ET.
