WEST CALDWELL, NJ – Lackawanna College women's soccer fell on the road in thanks to three second half Essex County College goals, dropping a 4-0 decision in their NJCAA Region XIX Division II contest on Saturday afternoon at the Essex County College West Campus soccer field.
Â
The Falcons (0-5-0, 0-3-0) were under fire in the first half, and Essex (2-3-1, 1-1-1) broke through on a breakaway at the Lackawanna net midway through the first frame. Initially, it looked like keeper
Madison Kattner (New Ringgold, PA) made the stop with an excellent kick save. However, the Wolverines pounced on the rebound and slotted it past Kattner to make it 1-0.
Â
The Falcons kept things tight into the second half, and had their best chance early on a free kick from the top of the box.
Melanie Shumway (Rome, PA) tried to curl one in the top right corner, but she put the shot just wide of the frame.
Â
As the half got on, the pressure mounted from Essex, and the Wolverines added three goals in the final 30 minutes to pull away for the win.
Â
Kattner had 19 saves to give the Falcons some stability at the back.
Â
