SCRANTON, Pa. --Â Lackawanna College women's soccer fell 9-0 to the Lehigh Carbon Community College Cougars on Tuesday evening in its home opener at Schautz Stadium in Dunmore. Â
Â
The Falcons (0-2-0) were overwhelmed early on, with the Cougars (5-2-0) scoring four goals in the first 20 minutes, two coming within the first six.
Madison Magone (Sophomore; Rockaway, NJ) got the start in goal, and was under constant pressure, but had a phenomenal game, saving 15 shots in the first half alone on her way to 24 saves for the game. Several times, Magone punched, kicked, and deflected shots out of the way in one-on-one opportunities. Late in the first half, with her team already down 4-0, Magone faced another 1v1, and came out victorious with an impressive diving catch to deny a goal.Â
Â
Lackawanna managed three shots for the game, two on target, but could never really string possession together in the offensive zone. The Cougars took a 6-0 lead at the half, and kept the pressure going in the second half, pushing the Falcons back on defense.
Â
Lackawanna will look to bounce back, with an afternoon contest on Saturday, October 7
th against Essex County College at Schautz Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2:00pm ET, the second game of a doubleheader, with the men's squads playing first at noon.
