SCRANTON, Pa. --Â
Gwendolyn Langley gave Lackawanna an early lead, but Hagerstown CC scored the equalizer a few minutes later, and then the go-ahead just before the end of the first half in a 2-1 loss for the Falcons on Tuesday afternoon at Schautz Stadium in Dunmore.
Â
Lackawanna College (3-1-0) was led by Langley, whose goal came unassisted, as well as
Madison Magone (Rockaway, NJ), who came up with 13 saves, including several highlight reel stops, under constant pressure from Hagerstown.
Â
The Falcons battled with Hagerstown through the early portion of the match, when Langley burst through on the left side and took a left-footed shot from distance that beat the keeper near post in the 25
th minute, giving the Falcons an early 1-0 advantage.
Â
The lead would be short-lived, as the possession and pressure from the Hawks would only ratchet up, resulting in a goal in the 33
rd minute from Leah Stevens to make it 1-all. Just before the half, in the 45
th minute, Mikaila Ek stole a throw-in from the Falcons, split several defenders, and beat Magone low and to the right to make it 2-1, Hagerstown, with less than 25 seconds remaining in the half.
Â
Both teams worked hard in the second half, with the Hawks holding most of the possession and offensive chances. Lackawanna College struggled to get the ball into the final third, and couldn't quite hang on to possession in the midfield, but got some stellar minutes out of their backline of
Ashley Goings (Bensalem, PA),
Gina Grof (Uniontown, PA),
Sophia Mandarano (Dunmore, PA) and Bipana Ghale.
Â
That concludes the scheduled regular season games for the Lackawanna College women's soccer team, but there may be more games added before the season ends. If that is the case, those schedule updates will be on lackawannafalcons.com.
