WSOC: Falcons Travel To Lehigh Carbon For Saturday Afternoon Clash

Lackawanna College Will Look To Make It Three In A Row On Saturday Afternoon At Lehigh Carbon

10/15/22

SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College women's soccer will look to make it three in a row on Saturday, October 15th, when the Falcons travel to take on the Lehigh Carbon CC Cougars in the Lehigh Valley for a Region 19 clash.

The match is the first of a doubleheader, kicking off at noon, while the men's teams will follow at 2:00pm ET at the Lehigh Carbon CC soccer field. There is no video livestream available for the match.

About the Falcons
Lackawanna College won a match earlier this week with an impressive 9-0 victory on the road at Harrisburg Area CC. The Falcons were dominant throughout, as both Gwendolyn Langley and Kaeleigh Viola (West Islip, PA) each got a hat-trick, while Jazly Garcia (Scranton, PA) and Aaliyah Shade (Richland, PA) added goals. You can read the recap HERE.

The Falcons (2-0) are led by Langley, who has scored five goals in two games this season. Viola has her three goals, and Shade has a pair of goals this year, while Garcia, Ashley Goings (Bensalem, PA), and Sarah Manweiler (East Islip, PA) each have a goal scored on the year.

Madison Magone (Rockaway, NJ) is the keeper for the Falcons, and has a pair of clean sheets to her name on the season. She has four saves on the season.

Megan Tweedy returns for her second year at the helm for the Falcons. Tweedy, a Lackawanna College graduate, also played soccer and basketball for the Falcons in her time at Lackawanna. She is a Lakeland HS graduate, and an NEPA native. She will be assisted by Ashley Bruno, one of the top-scorers from last year's team, and inside the top five all-time in Falcons goals, ever.

About The Opponents
Lehigh Carbon CC (2-7) enter the game having last played a game back on October 10th, a 10-0 defeat to the always powerful Mercer County CC Vikings. Before that, the Cougars were actually on a winning streak, having won their last two games, including an impressive 7-1 win over Harrisburg Area CC, avenging a loss from earlier in the season.

The Cougars have struggled defensively, allowing four or more goals in all seven of their losses this season, giving up double-digit goals in three games this year. In their two wins, the Cougars had a clean sheet (1-0) and gave up just a goal to HACC.

Aliya Dekorte is the top scorer for the Cougars with seven goals on the season. She had four of those seven goals against Harrisburg Area in the 7-1 win, and scored two goals against Camden County College.

Yelina Horn has three goals on the season, second on the squad. Horn had a pair of goals in the victory over Harrisburg Area. She also had the lone goal in the win over Montgomery County CC.

Maya Muniz is the main keeper for the Cougars on the season, giving up 23 goals in four games this season, while making 31 saves. She was the keeper in the win over Harrisburg Area. The other keeper is Mattie Rehrig, who has played in a pair of games this season for Lehigh Carbon, including the 1-0 victory over Montgomery County CC.

The head coach for Lehigh Carbon is Dave Cartwright, who spent four years as the Director of Soccer Operations and was an assistant coach with the Lafayette men's soccer program, helping the Leopards to a 2019 Patriot League final appearance.

Cartwright, a United Kingdom native, has an extensive background in youth soccer, especially in the Lehigh Valley, and also coached in the UK at West Wales and Peterborough United Development Academies. He also spent time as a scout for Nottingham Forest FC, which competes in the Premier League in England. Cartwright is also the head coach for the men's soccer team at Lehigh Carbon.

Game Details
Saturday's match is set for a 12:00pm ET kick off, the first game of a doubleheader, with the men's game following at 2:00pm ET, both at the Lehigh Carbon CC soccer field.

This is the last game currently scheduled for the women's soccer team in the regular season, however, there is a possibility of one more home game being added to the schedule next week. Pay attention to lackawannafalcons.com for all the scheduling updates.
