SCRANTON, Pa. -- For the first time in 22 days, the Lackawanna College Falcons will take the field for a game day on Sunday, October 16th, as they travel down to Chesterfield, Virginia for a first-ever match-up with Queen City Collegiate Prep out of North Carolina. The game is set for a 4:00pm ET kick-off from L.C. Bird High School. There will be a video livestream available via the Lackawanna College Athletics Sports Network (lackawannafalcons.com/LIVE), and the Region 19 Sports Network app.Â
The Falcons (3-1) are ranked #15 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I poll. Lackawanna comes into the match-up with the Sharks after having not played a football game since September 24th, when the Falcons scored 33 points in the first half on their way to a 40-3 victory over the Sussex County CC Skylanders in a rare Region 19 football clash.
Terez Worthy (Salisbury, MD) led the rushing attack with 86 yards and two scores, while the Falcons piled up 271 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, as a team.
Andrew Vines (Garner, NC) had a big day on defense, recovering two fumbles, including one where he blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown. The defense had 12 tackles-for-loss and five sacks on the day.Â
The Sharks (1-3) come into the contest after taking a 70-6 loss on the road against Navy JV in Annapolis last Friday. Queen City Prep has also played three NCAA Division III JV squads, including Ferrum College, Methodist University, and Averett University. The Sharks, who once competed as Jireh Prep, are the oldest post-grad football program in the Carolinas.Â
Lackawanna College is still chasing history in this, its 30th season of competition. The Falcons have 199 program victories, and head coach
Mark Duda, the man in charge for 29 of those seasons, sits at 195 career victories, the most among active coaches in the NJCAA.
This is the first ever match-up between Lackawanna College and Queen City Collegiate Prep. After Hurricane Ian wrecked the Falcons' plans to play ASA Miami two weeks ago, and a scheduled bye from last week, the Falcons were left scrambling for an opponent early this week when QCP stepped up and stepped in as an opponent.  Â
