WEST CHESTER, Pa. – A disastrous first quarter set the tone for Lackawanna College football, as West Chester scored 28 points and blew past the Falcons, 52-0, on Saturday evening at Farrell Stadium on West Chester's campus.
Â
The Falcons (0-7) struggled on offense once again, amassing just 179 yards of total offense, including 81 through the air, while WCU (4-3) posted 260 yards rushing, averaging 6.5 yards per rush, and 433 yards of total offense. Lackawanna had three turnovers and went 4-for-14 on third down, while the Rams were 5-for-8 on third downs and 6-for-6 on red zone chances.
Â
West Chester opened the game with an impressive nine-play drive that ended in an eleven-yard touchdown to put the Golden Rams up seven with 10:41 to play in the opening quarter. On the ensuing kickoff, the Falcons fumbled the ball and failed to secure the bounce before West Chester jumped on the loose ball for a first-and-ten at the Lackawanna 20-yard line. Three plays later, a nine-yard touchdown pass meant it was 14-0, West Chester, before the Falcons had even touched the ball.
Â
Then, when the Falcons did possess the ball, quarterback
David Naniewicz (Scott Twp, PA) was picked trying to throw an out-route at the Lackawanna 34-yard line, and the pick was taken 34 yards for the score to give WCU a 21-0 lead with 7:40 to play in just the first period.
Â
Lackawanna was forced to punt on its next drive, but the Rams crashed and blocked the punt, recovering at the Lackawanna 22-yard line. Three plays later, WCU was in the end zone again, this time on a 15-yard pass to go up 28-0 with 4:38 to play, still in the first quarter.
Â
A Lackawanna drive that made it to West Chester's 39-yard line ended in a punt, and WCU made the Falcons pay for giving the ball up, marching down the field and scoring on a one-yard touchdown run to go up 35-0. Another Lackawanna punt was answered with a 65-yard touchdown pass with 3:45 to play in the half, making it 42-0 heading into halftime.
Â
The Falcons had a drive stall out at midfield to start the second half, and West Chester put together a ten-minute drive in response, ending in a field goal with 12 seconds to play to go ahead 45-0.
Â
In the fourth quarter, the Falcons moved the ball to near midfield, but, once more, the offense stalled out and was forced to punt away. After forcing a punt, the Falcons had possession at their own 37-yad line, but Naniewicz was hit and fumbled trying to rush the ball, and the Golden Rams picked it up. Five plays after that, West Chester had scored again to make it 52-0 with 2:26 to play, and WCU would hang on for the shutout win from there.
Â
Laivon Balthazar (Perth Amboy, NJ) was 7-for-10 for 59 yards, while Naniewicz had 22 yards on 7-for-12 passing and a pick six.
Jalen Fletcher (Bethlehem, PA) had 60 yards rushing on 20 carries, while Naniewicz added 18 yards on three attempts. Fletcher had four catches for 17 yards, while
Jayden Byrd (Norristown, PA) had four grabs for 26 yards.
Â
Brodie Daugherty (Manheim, PA) led the way with eight total tackles.
Keyonte Davis (Washington, D.C.) added six stops, while
Robert Nelson (Washington, D.C.) posted five tackles.
Â
Lackawanna College remains winless in 2026, and the Falcons will look to change that next Saturday, October 24
th, when Shippensburg University comes to NEPA. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm ET at PenFed Field at Scranton Memorial Stadium.
