Tom joined the Lackawanna College Athletic Department in July 2021 after spending the better part of ten years in full-time radio in Northeast PA.
Before joining Lackawanna, Tom had spent the most of the previous decade at Times-Shamrock Communications in Scranton, working in the radio department as a Program Director for NEPA's ESPN Radio and the various iterations of Fuzz 92.1, ALT 92.1, and Q92. While there, Tom was in charge of the day-to-day operations, on-air promotions, music and talk show programming, and imaging for each radio station. He organized promotions around concert trips across the country to various festivals, including Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Firefly, as well as local concert giveaways and special experiences with local businesses. He also helped spearhead local concerts with national recording artists and music acts, sponsored by the radio station, which included bands like Third Eye Blind, Cage The Elephant, Weezer, Panic! At The Disco, Andrew McMahon, Grouplove, Bleachers, Walk The Moon, Awolnation, and more.
In addition to his work on the music-side of radio, Tom also served as lead play-by-play broadcaster for NEPA's ESPN Radio's HS Sports coverage, namely football and boys and girls basketball, as well as baseball and softball. He won two PAB Awards for Excellence in Local Sports Broadcasting in 2014 and 2015. He also oversaw WEJL's programming that included national events like the World Series, the NBA Finals, the College Football Playoff, and Westwood One's coverage of March Madness and the NFL. He was the co-host and producer of local sports talk show "In the Zone" with longtime sportswriter Joby Fawcett, covering local athletics at the high school and collegiate level.
Tom also worked briefly at Audacy Communications (formerly Entercom) in Pittston Twp., where he was a promotions assistant for the four-station cluster and an on-air personality for WMQX, Max 102. His duties included helping the stations to set-up and tear-down for promotional appearances, as well as his on-air duties.
Tom has also spent time working with local colleges, namely, Misericordia University and Wilkes University, serving as their main play-by-play broadcaster for their football, men's and women's basketball, and baseball teams. Tom was the first voice of the Misericordia University football team, calling their inaugural season for what was then ESPN Williamsport. He also served as the broadcaster when both the men's and women's basketball teams secured their first-ever NCAA Division III tournament bids in 2012.
Tom is a 2011 graduate of Penn State University, where he majored in Broadcast Journalism, with a minor in Kinesiology. While at University Park, Tom was the Sports Director for the College of Communications' online student radio station, ComRadio, where he helped broadcast Penn State sports, including football, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's and women's lacrosse, and men's club hockey. In his time at Penn State, Tom was among the first students to be a part of the emerging video streaming broadcasts from GoPSUSports.com and the Big Ten Network, serving as the play-by-play broadcaster for Penn State women's soccer, as well as Penn State women's basketball. Those broadcasts, completely produced and worked by students in the College of Communications, aired on tape delay on the Big Ten Network to a national audience under its "Student U" branding.
Tom graduated from Dunmore High School in 2007, where he was a three-sport athlete, and he has lived in Northeastern Pennsylvania almost all of his life.
Tom currently resides in Dunmore with his wife, Gina, and their two sons, Nole and Merritt.
