DUNMORE, Pa. –
Edwin Garces scored a hattrick and Lackawanna College men's soccer peppered the Penn State Hazleton goal with 39 shots in a 10-0 win in non-league action on Thursday afternoon at Schautz Stadium.
The Falcons (1-2-0) picked up the first win of head coach Craig Wilkinson's tenure, scoring seven goals in the first half alone and posting eight assists on their ten tallies for the day. PSU Hazleton (0-5-0) managed just one shot on the day.
Lackawanna took the lead ten minutes in when
Jandry Vega (Macias, Ecuador) took a long ball from
Jordan Artmont (Dallas, PA) and slotted it past the keeper. The lead doubled in the 19
th minute on the first Garces goal. That was the first in a string of five goals over the next eleven minutes, which included a penalty from
Manuel Bur (Spring, TX), a score from Western Wayne grad
Michael Durso, and goals from
Lucas Tarbox (Chickasha, OK) and
Micah Lawson (Allentown, PA). Dunmore's
Chrisley Jean added a header in the 38
th minute off a corner from Tarbox, and the Falcons zoomed into the break up 7-0.
Garces added two more goals in the 56
th and 61
st minute to complete the hattrick, and Bur added a second goal in the 69
th minute.
Lackawanna had 39 shots, 18 on target, and accumulated nine corner kicks. Keeper
Rupert Deniz (Dickinson, ND) didn't have much to do, with his only save coming on a long-ball kick to start the second half.
The Falcons will look to add another win to the docket this weekend with a road contest at Bucks County CC. Kickoff is set for 3:00pm ET at the Centurion Soccer Field in Newtown, PA.
