NORTH EAST, Md. – A goal in the 88
th minute was the heartbreaker for Lackawanna College men's soccer, as Cecil took the 1-0 win against the Falcons in non-region action on Tuesday afternoon in Maryland.
The Falcons (2-3-0) came into the game on a two-game winning streak, and had managed to hold their own throughout the contest, despite being outshot (21-16) and out possessed for all of the game. Keeper
Rupert Deniz (Dickinson, ND) had eleven saves, but the Seahawks (3-4-2) found the breakthrough late.
In the 88
th minute, Cecil was awarded its sixth corner kick of the game on the right side. The resulting ball skimmed across the face of goal, where Georges Aravidis Rojas met it with his head, spiking the ball downwards off the turf and into the back of the net for the game-winner.
The Falcons had four shots on target for the game, with
Nahuel Minis (Old Forge, PA) and
Manuel Bur (Spring, TX) each registering a shot.
Chrisley Jean (Dunmore, PA) came off the bench to register a pair of shots on goal.
Lackawanna College will be back to work on Saturday, September 27
th, with a road contest at Essex County College. First kick is set for 2:00pm ET in West Caldwell, NJ, and the game is the second of a doubleheader, with the women's teams playing first at 12:00pm ET.
