FB: Falcons Downgrade Hurricanes For Second Win Of 2024

It Wasn't A Visually Pleasing Game, But The Falcons Still Came Out With The Victory

Box Score 9/7/24

DUMFRIES, Va. – It was not pretty, but Lackawanna College football did what it set out to do on Saturday against Louisburg College: Win. The Falcons calmed the Hurricanes with solid defense and just enough offense to take a 24-7 win on a rainy afternoon at Potomac HS in Virginia.

The #14 Falcons (2-0) were a bit sluggish and wasteful on offense. After an opening drive field goal from Keegan Hughes (Scranton, PA), Lackawanna sputtered on offense, twice failing to convert on fourth down. Into the second quarter, still only ahead by a 3-0 margin, Chris Campanelli (Lake Kenoza, NY) did his best to spark his team, blocking a field goal attempt from the opposition to give the Falcons possession, but Lackawanna came up empty once again.

The big swing came later in the second quarter, when the Hurricanes (1-1) fumbled after completing a pass near midfield. Bryan Pulley (Raleigh, NC) forced the ball free, and Benjamin Jones (Stroudsburg, PA) gathered the loose ball and returned it to the Louisburg 3-yard line. Quarterback Josiah Williams (Emmaus, PA) cashed that in with a touchdown run that gave the Falcons the 10-0 lead at the break.

The Falcons put two more touchdowns on the board in the second half, the first coming when Maurice Edwards (Mundelein, IL) scored his third TD of the season on a 35-yard rush. The second touchdown happened when Wyatt Hagan (Chantilly, VA) hooked up with Michael Hodge (Richmond, VA) from 32 yards out to make it 24-0 with 3:41 to go in the quarter.

Louisburg avoided the shutout in the fourth quarter on a big play, a 58-yard touchdown pass. That was it, however, as neither team could really get their offenses to respond.

The win pushes the Falcons' record to 2-0, and now sets up Lackawanna for an important, marquee match-up with #4 Snow College on Saturday, September 14th at 7:00pm ET at Scranton's Memorial Stadium.
