FB: Falcons And Hurricanes Set To Meet In Neutral Site Contest On Saturday

The 11th Ranked Lackawanna College Falcons Will Travel To Chesterfield, Virginia To Take On Louisburg College This Weekend

9/8/23

SCRANTON, Pa. -- After an emotional victory and season opener, Lackawanna College will step up its competition with a team that has traditionally given it fits, as the Falcons travel to take on the Hurricanes from Louisburg College this Saturday, September 9th, at 5:00pm ET, at Lloyd C Bird HS in Chesterfield, VA.

The game will be broadcast on lackawannafalcons.com/LIVE via the Lackawanna College Athletics Network, and the NJCAA Region 19 Sports Network. Tom Ferguson, Sports Information Director, will have the play-by-play.

The Falcons (1-0) come into the contest after defeating Jireh Prep Post Grad in a 47-16 contest that opened up the 2023 campaign. The win was, officially, the 200th career victory for head football coach Mark Duda, who is into his 30th season as the head coach for Lackawanna College, and his 31st overall at the College. Lackawanna had over 430 yards of offense, and held Jireh Prep to just around 200 total yards of offense. But, the Falcons had five turnovers and had numerous penalties that helped the Bandits hang around. Read the recap HERE.

Louisburg comes into the game not having played yet this year. The Hurricanes started last year 3-0, then dropped two straight to Hocking and and Georgia Military, before going 2-1 over its last three games to finish 5-3 overall a season ago. The Hurricanes are 9-5 over the last two seasons, and Saturday's game is the first of eight games on the schedule this season.

The series between the Falcons and the Hurricanes has seen five contests, with Louisburg holding a 3-2 edge all-time. The series has been well-played, with four of the five contests being decided by ten points or less. Lackawanna College won the last meeting, 33-0, in 2014 at home in Peckville, PA. That had snapped what was a three-game losing streak to the Hurricanes, and it also marked the final win in Peckville for the Falcons, who would switch home venues the next year to Memorial Stadium in Scranton, PA.

Lackawanna College is next in action on Saturday, September 16th, when the Falcons make the trip down to Milledgeville, GA to take on the Bulldogs from Georgia Military College. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm ET from Davenport Field.
