HAGERSTOWN, Md. – The offense came in bunches, and the hosts just couldn't keep up, as Lackawanna College picked up a pair of wins in a doubleheader sweep on Friday afternoon at Hagerstown CC, 11-4 and 10-0, in non-region action down in Maryland.
Â
Lackawanna College (24-13) got plenty of offense through both games, but the story was game two, where
Allyson Lemerise (Catonsville, MD) threw a no-hitter in her home state return with the Falcons, the first no-hitter for Lackawanna College softball since Amanda Mowry and Katelyn Weller combined for one on April 14, 2019 against Bucks County CC. Lemerise had seven strikeouts, tying her season-high from earlier this year, and got a win in her fourth straight start for the Falcons.
Krista Scoblick (Harvey's Lake, PA) and
Gwen Balavage (Avoca, PA) each had two-run homers to help the Lackawanna cause and give Lemerise plenty of cushion.
Â
In game one, the Hawks (5-15) obviously showed a little more fight, but the Falcons were in control from the start, getting a two-run double from
Madison McVicar (Blakely, PA) in the top of the first to take a lead, back-to-back doubles from Scoblick and
Catarena Sommers (Windham, OH) in the third to add on, and then a four-run sixth, highlighted by another Scoblick double, to put the game out of reach.
Tess Ruschman (Easton, PA) went the distance, giving up eight hits and striking out six for the win.
Â
Lackawanna College has won four straight games, and now turns its focus to its final scheduled home games of the year, a doubleheader on Sunday, April 23
rd against #3 NJCAA DIII Brookdale CC, a team the Falcons split with earlier this season. First pitch is at 12:00pm ET at Scranton HS softball field in Scranton.
