West Trenton, NJ -Â The Lackawanna College softball team split a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader with Mercer County Community College. The Falcons took the opener by an 11-4 score while Mercer claimed the nightcap 10-3.
In game one Lackawanna took a six-run lead in the first innings on RBI singles by
Gianna Telesco,
Gabrielle Vuocolo,
Felicia Saar,
Isabella Mandarano and
Camryn Domiano. Although the Vikings rallied back for three runs in the second and another in fourth they could not erase the Lackawanna lead. The Falcons lengthened their initial lead with a run in the fourth by way of a Telesco Home Run, an unearned run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth on consecutive doubles by
Nevaeh Ross,
Kamden Miller and
Gabrielle Vuocolo.
In addition to the Telesco home run and the doubles by Ross, Miller and Vuocolo,
Morgan Mesaris contributed Lackawanna's fifth extra-base hit a two-bagger in the seventh. Additionally,
Camryn Domiano (5-2-2-1), Mesaris (4-1-2-0), Telesco (5-2-2-2), Miller (3-2-2-1) and Vuocolo (4-1-2-3) all had multi-hit games.
Meghan Fritz earned the victory. Fritz surrendered four runs on 13 hits over seven innings while striking out one and walking no one.
In game two, Lackawanna's bats went cold except for
Morgan Mesaris. Mercer held the Falcons to seven hits and three runs while putting seven unanswered runs on the board.
Mesaris had Lackawanna's only Multi-hit game, a two for two game with a double and home run, two RBIs and a run. Lynda Lawernce had the team's only other extra-base hit, a double in the second.
Stephanie Kibbe suffered the loss.
