Falcons Take Game 2 from Northampton

Scranton, PA - Tuesday afternoon, the Lackawanna College softball team hosted Northampton Community College in a non-conference home doubleheader. The Falcons both ends of the twin bill by scores of 11-1 and 11-5.

In the opening game Lackawanna got on the board in the first inning on Morgan Mesaris' two-run home run and an RBI single by Lynda Lawrence and Gabrielle Vuocolo. The Falcons scored five more runs in the second inning on singles by Vuocolo and Lawrence and a double by Gianna Telesco. Northampton scored their only run in the top of the third only to see Lackawanna answer in the bottom of the inning when Stephanie Kibbe singled in a run. Tess Ruschman finished the scoring in the fourth when she doubled in Felicia Saar.

Besides the first-inning home run by Mesaris four other Falcons had extra-base hits. Madison McVicar, Felicia Saar, Telesco and Ruschman all had two-base hits. Vuocolo (3-2-2-2) and Lawrence (2-0-2-2) had Lackawanna's only multi-hit contests.

Mackayla Quick was the winning pitcher. Quick lasted three innings allowing two hits and one run while striking out three. Tess Ruschman threw two innings in relief and recorded the last six outs giving up one hit and no runs.

In the second game Northampton scored two runs in the top of the first inning only to see Mackala Quick put a dent in that lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the second. The Spartans bounced back with three in the top of the third to give them a 5-1 lead. Camryn Domiano scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the inning and Madison McVicar drove in a run on a single to cut the margin to 5-3. The Falcons scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the score. The Falcons took the lead in the fifth when McVicar tripled and scored on a fielder's choice. Lackawanna put the game out of reach in the sixth on RBI singles by Makenzie Rose and Gabrielle Vuocolo and a two-run triple by McVicar, her second of the day.
In addition to McVicar's triples Morgan Mesaris had the team's only other extra-base hit, a double in the sixth. Domiano (4-3-4-0), Mesaris (4-2-2-0, 2B) and McVicar (4-2-3-3, two 3Bs) had the team's multi-hit games.

Meghan Fritz received credit for the victory. The righty went seven innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out five, and walking one.
