West Trenton, NJ - Saturday afternoon the Lackawanna College Softball team lost both games of their Region 19 Division doubleheader. They fell to Mercer in game one by a score of 3-2 and dropped the second game 4-1.
In the opening game, they took a 1-0 lead on Gianna Telesco's RBI single in the first inning. Mercer tied the contest when they scored a run in the second. Neither team scored until the top of the fifth when Morgan Mesaris drove in the go-ahead run with a single. Unfortunately for the Falcons, the Vikings retook the lead with two runs in the bottom of fifth, a lead they would not relinquish.
The Falcons had two players with multi-hit games. Kamden Miller singled and doubled in three at-bats while Makenzie Rose singled twice in three plate appearances. Miller's double was Lackawanna's only extra-base hits of the game.
Meghan Fritz took the loss despite a strong performance on the mound. She lasted six innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out two and walking no one.
In game two Mercer scored a run in the first, fifth and two in the sixth inning before Lackawanna put a run on the board in the seventh.
Except for Bella Mandarano, the Lackawanna bats were stone cold in this game. They generated only six hits, with Mandarano recording three of those hits in her three at-bats. Gabrielle Vuocolo had the team's only extra-base hit, a pinch-hit double in the seventh.
Stephanie Kibbe took the loss for Lackawanna. The right-hander surrendered four runs on ten hits over six innings, striking out four and walking one.
