SCRANTON, Pa. – West Chester University was dominant at the net and swept past Lackawanna College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-13), on Saturday afternoon inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium in a first-ever encounter between the two sides.
 
The Falcons (0-8) struggled to keep up with the taller Golden Rams (8-8), as WCU posted eleven blocks, including four solo stuffs from middle blocker Julia Kwitchoff, who finished with seven kills, tied with Maeve Gallagher for second on the team. Berwick native CeCe Isenberg had eight kills on just eleven attempts, hitting a scorching .727 for the match. Setter Ada Koksal had 26 assists. The Rams hit .247 for the day, posting seven aces and committing just nine attack errors.
 
Ciona Braziel (Fort Worth, TX) had eight kills on .313 hitting to lead the Falcons, while Jana Hofmann (Colorado Springs, CO) added four kills and nine digs. Aryana Brown (Chester, NY) had 18 digs to lead the Falcons, along with a pair of aces and two kills. The Falcons had 14 service errors, 20 attack errors, and six pass errors, while hitting just .021.
 
West Chester broke open a tight first set with a 6-0 run to get ahead 10-4. They'd score another five of seven points to stretch the lead out to 15-6 before the Falcons hit a three-point run, helped by a kill from Hofmann and an ace from Regan Freas (Louisa, VA). A Braziel kill made it 16-10, and a Hofmann kill got the Falcons within 17-11, but the Rams scored three-straight points to go ahead 20-11. The Falcons got within 20-13, but the Rams scored five of the final six points to win the first set at 25-14.
 
In set two, the Falcons were down 11-7 before going on a 4-1 mini-run, helped by a pair of kills from Braziel and aces from both Brown and Freas, closing to within 12-11. Lackawanna was still in it a few points later, down 17-15, but the Golden Rams took advantage of two Lackawanna errors and a kill from Isenberg to go up 20-15. The Falcons used a service error to get to 20-16, but West Chester once again ended strong, scoring five of the next six points for the second straight set to win it at 25-17.
 
The Rams led 7-4 through the first few points of set three, but used a 4-0 run to blow things open at 11-4. It got to 12-5, but the Falcons scored three-straight points on a kill from Brazile, an ace from Brown, and a bad set from the Rams. Lackawanna eventually got within 14-11 after a kill from Sophia Bedics (Bethlehem, PA), but the Rams hit the afterburners to put the match away, scoring eleven of the final 13 points to put Lackawanna away for good at 25-13.
 
The Falcons aren't back to action until Friday, October 2^nd, when Shippensburg University comes to Scranton for the first time. The match is set for a 6:00pm ET start inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium, and will serve as the kickoff to Homecoming Weekend festivities at Lackawanna College.
