SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College women's volleyball couldn't get out of its own way with attack errors, as Shippensburg University swept past the Falcons in straight sets (25-17, 25-12, 25-17) on Friday night inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.

The Falcons (0-9) had 22 attack errors and gave up eleven aces to the Raiders (11-6), who hit .238 for the match and posted 31 total kills. The Falcons got five kills from
Jana Hofmann (Colorado Springs, CO) and
Nadia Toth (Dalton, PA).
Aryanna Brown (Chester, NY) had two aces and eight digs, while
Syriana Smith (Houston, TX) posted a team-high nine assists.

Shippensburg built an early advantage in set one, going up 5-1, but the Falcons rallied to within 5-4 on three-straight errors from the Raiders. Lackawanna stayed within four points up to 13-9, Shippensburg, but the Raiders hit a 5-2 spurt to get ahead 18-11. Back-to-back kills from
Regan Freas (Louisa, VA) and
Neurdia Osias (Huntington Station, NY) got the Falcons within 18-13, sparking a 7-3 run that got the Falcons within 21-17, highlighted by a pair of kills by Hofmann. However, Shippensburg rallied and scored the final four points of the set to take it 25-17.

Lackawanna led early in set two, going out to a 3-1 lead, and the Falcons managed to stay in front at 7-5 on multiple attack errors from the Raiders. Lackawanna kept it up, getting ahead at 11-8 on more errors from Shippensburg, but the Raiders turned the tables and blazed on a 17-1 run to end the set, taking advantage of eight Lackawanna errors and four service aces to win it 25-12.

The Raiders led 8-4 in the third set, but the Falcons were close, thanks to kills from Toth and
Ciona Braziel (Fort Worth, TX). Shippensburg stretched a lead out to 12-7, but Lackawanna scored six of the next eight points to get within 14-13, spurred on by aces from
Angelique Fuentes (Miami, FL) and
Adalee Rosado Rivera (Guyama, Puerto Rico) and errors from Shippensburg. Lackawanna was within 17-15 after back-to-back kills from Toth, but the Raiders went on a 6-1 run to get up 23-16 to put things out of reach and win it 25-17.

Lackawanna College is back to action on Saturday, October 3
rd, when the Falcons are set to host the Shepherd University Rams for an early start, 11:00am ET, inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.
