SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV – Lackawanna College men's soccer once again found itself in a tight game late with a tough opponent, but the Falcons also, once again, couldn't hang on, as Shepherd found a late winner to beat Lackawanna, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Shepherd Soccer Complex.
 
The Falcons (0-5-2) played the game they needed to through the first half, despite being under considerable pressure, and that pressure ramped up, as Shepherd peppered the Falcons with eleven second-half shots, five of which were on target. The backbreaker came in the 84^th minute, when reigning PSAC East Athlete of the Year Josh Petty finally got his head to a ball. A long ball into the box was flicked on towards the goal, and Petty got his head to it just in front of keeper Rowin Thomas (Abilene, TX), snapping the nets and putting the Rams ahead late.
 
The Falcons almost had an equalizer in the 88^th minute, when a charging Miguel Pereira (Revere, MA) hit the right corner and bounced it off the post. A few attempts from the Falcons to get into the offensive zone didn't result in goals, and the time ran out on Lackawanna College.
 
Shepherd (4-1-2) outshot the Falcons, 20-9, with seven on target, and they had ten corners to none for Lackawanna. The Falcons had three shots on target. Thomas finished with six saves, a season-high for him. Pereira had a pair of shots, while Johnathan Cuellar (El Paso, TX) had three shots, one on target. Michael Hoy (Mechanicsburg, PA) had a shot on frame.
 
Lackawanna College is still searching for its first win, and the Falcons will try to get that on Wednesday, September 23^rd, when the Falcons are set to host Shippensburg University. Kickoff is set for 3:30pm ET at Schautz Stadium in Dunmore.
