MSOC: Shippensburg Tops Lackawanna College

The Raiders Scored Early To Set The Tone, And The Falcons Couldn't Recover

DUNMORE, Pa. – An early goal from the visitors put Lackawanna College men's soccer on the backfoot, and the Falcons couldn't regain their composure, dropping a 3-0 decision at home to Shippensburg University on Wednesday afternoon at Schautz Stadium.
 
The Falcons (0-6-2) gave up a goal in the seventh minute after sloppy possession, and Lackawanna spent the rest of the first half defending, as Shippensburg peppered the Lackawanna defense with 12 shots and five corners in the first half, holding Lackawanna to zero first-half shots.
 
The Falcons turned in a better second half effort, nearly tying the game through the first few minutes, but the Raiders (2-2-3) drew a foul in the box for a penalty, which they coolly drilled to go ahead 2-0. Shippensburg added a third goal in the 80th minute to complete the scoring.
 
Lackawanna nearly got on the board late, when a deflected by found Byron McNeil (Springfield, IL) near the top of the box, but the defender's driven ball couldn't find the net. Tito Tokunboh-Salako (Columbia, MD) had a shot that forced a save in the 88th minute, the last chance for the Falcons to score and end a scoreless streak that has now reached over five games, 484 minutes of playing time.
 
Shippensburg outshot the Falcons, 20-to-6, with eight shots on target and seven corners. Keeper Rowin Thomas (Abilene, TX) had five saves for the Falcons. Tokunboh-Salako had two shots, while Donnie Frayer (Odenton, MD) had a shot on target. Amani Byirinbiro (Scranton, PA), Aydin Boyunegmez (Millville, PA), and McNeil all recorded a shot for the Falcons.
 
Lackawanna College is still without a win, and the Falcons have now dropped three-straight losses. The next event for Lackawanna College will be an exhibition match on the road at NCAA Division III Eastern University. Kick is set for 2:00pm ET in St. David's, PA. After that, the next regular season contest will be on Wednesday, September 30th, when the Falcons are set to host West Chester University for their first-ever match-up. Kick for that contest is scheduled for 3:30pm ET at Schautz Stadium in Dunmore.
