WBB: Red-Hot Raritan Uses Third Quarter Avalanche To Bowl Over Lackawanna

The Lions Shot Nearly 80% From The Floor In The Third Quarter Alone, Scoring 38 Points To Blow Past The Falcons

2/12/26
Ā
SCRANTON, Pa. – A scorching-hot third quarter for the visitors was more than Lackawanna College women's basketball bargained for, as the Falcons fell 84-63 at home to Raritan Valley CC in a Region XIX Division II contest inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
Ā
The Falcons (7-17, 1-11) were down seven at the break and hoping for a strong third quarter start to get a closer, but the Lions (10-16, 4-8) came firing out of the gates in the third stanza, scoring 38 points and shooting nearly 72% from the floor, including a 7-for-9 performance from three-point territory.
Ā
Lackawanna couldn't keep up the pace, despite posting their most points in a game (63) in nearly a month. Raritan finished the game with a season-best 13 made three-pointers, getting 33 points from sophomore Elizabeth May, who nailed eight three-pointers.
Ā
The Falcons played well through the first half, trailing just 32-25 at the break and holding the visiting Lions to just 32% shooting from the floor. But, the warning signs were there, as Raritan hit six three-pointers, including one just before the end of the half, sinking a corner three-pointer to go ahead by seven just before the horn.
Ā
Lackawanna shot 32% from the floor and hit seven three-pointers, while connecting on 14-for-18 from the free throw line. Four players were in double-figures, with Canyah Randle (Scranton, PA) leading the way at 17 points and 17 rebounds. Alaniah Ortiz (Allentown, PA) scored 15 points and grabbed eleven rebounds, while Sophia Summa (Dunmore, PA) added 14 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Desireé Nales (Allentown, PA) added ten points.
Ā
The loss is the seventh-straight for the Falcons. They'll look to get off the skids with a road contest on Saturday, February 14th, at Delaware Tech CC. Tip is set for 12:00pm ET in Newark, DE at Del Tech's Stanton campus. The game is the first of a doubleheader, with the men's teams playing afterwards at 2:00pm ET.
