WVB: Millersville Knocks Off Lackawanna College In Straight Sets

The Falcons Played A Solid Second Set, But The Marauders Made Certain To Pick Up The Win At Home

10/9/26

SCRANTON, Pa. – A slow start hampered the effort from Lackawanna College women's volleyball, and the Falcons fell in straight-sets on the road at Millersville University (25-14, 25-23, 25-16) on Friday night inside Pucillo Gymnasium on campus at Millersville.

The Falcons (0-11) struggled, hitting just .032 and committing 20 attack errors on the night, while Millersville hit .212 and put up nine aces against the Falcons. The Marauders (5-12) hit .259 in both the first and third sets to set the tone, and overcame an early deficit in the second set to deny the Falcons.

Jana Hofmann (Colorado Springs, CO) had one of her best games of the season, posting a match-and-season-best nine kills and 15 digs, hitting .200, another season-high for the junior. Neurdia Osias (Huntington Station, NY) had four kills, while Ciona Braziel (Fort Worth, TX) added three kills and three total blocks. Kady Schreiner (Mountaintop, PA) added eleven assists, while Adalee Rosado Rivera (Guyama, Puerto Rico) had 13 digs.

Millersville started out set one with a 5-3 lead, and the Falcons closed to within 6-5 after a kill by Hofmann. A 6-1 run by the Marauders pushed it to 12-6, the Falcons scored a pair of points, and Millersville hit another run, this time a 7-1 spurt, that made it 19-9. A pair of errors and an ace made it 19-12, but Millersville closed on a 6-2 run to win it 25-14 in the first set.

Lackawanna College hit the front quickly in set two, leading 6-0 after two kills by Hofman, an ace by Rosado Rivera, and three-straight attack errors from the Marauders. Millersville closed the gap slowly, getting within 9-4, and then using a 6-1 run to tie the set at 10-10. A kill by Aryana Brown (Chester, NY) put the Falcons up 11-10, but five-straight points, highlighted by a pair of aces, pushed Millersville ahead at 15-11. The Falcons traded points back-and-forth, but still trailed at 20-15. Two-straight errors put the Falcons within three at 20-17, but Millersville pushed it to 22-18. Two errors and a Hofmann kill made it 22-21, and the Falcons were within one point twice more, getting the set to a 24-23 deficit, but a service error was the unfortunate end for Lackawanna's potential rally in the second set.

In set three, Millersville opened a 6-3 lead, then pushed it out to 11-4. An error, followed by a Brown kill, made it 11-6, but a 4-1 run by the Marauders lengthened the lead to 15-7. Lackawanna College tried to rally once more, using a kill from Osias and back-to-back kills from Hofmann to get within 16-10. Millersville kept its lead at six up to 18-12, then scored four of the next five points to make it 22-13. The Falcons got within 24-16, but an error on the Falcons ended the set and gave Millersville the three-set win.

Lackawanna College remains on the road this weekend, next playing on Saturday, October 10th, in an away match at West Chester University. The match is set for a 1:00pm ET start inside the Hollister Field House on West Chester's campus.
