WVB: West Chester Drops Lackawanna College In Three Sets

The Falcons Couldn't Keep Up With The Hitting Prowess And Blocking Ability From The Golden Rams On Saturday

10/10/26

WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- West Chester hit well throughout the afternoon and overcame numerous service errors to down Lackawanna College women's volleyball in straight-sets (25-13, 25-20, 25-17) on Saturday afternoon inside Hollinger Fieldhouse on WCU's campus.

The Falcons (0-12) had 18 attack errors on the day, hitting even at .000 for the day, but Lackawanna did limit service errors, committing just seven through the match, as compared to the 16 from West Chester. Meanwhile, the Golden Rams (9-11) were hot throughout the match, posting .359 in attack percentage on 44 kills, with a dominant 11-1 advantage in blocks at the net.

Jana Hofmann (Colorado Springs, CO) played well once again for the Falcons, posting nine kills on .227 hitting, with nine digs, while Aryana Brown (Chester, NY) had three kills, and Ciona Braziel (Fort Worth, TX) added a pair. Kaitlyn Reed (Aurora, CO) had a team-best 13 assists, while Adalee Rosado Rivera (Guyama, Puerto Rico) led the way with a pair of aces for the Falcons.

The Falcons jumped out in front through the first set, taking a 3-0 lead early on a pair of errors and then a kill by Hofmann, but WCU woke up quickly, scoring four-straight kills to get ahead 4-3. The lead expanded to 7-5, and WCU hit another run, a killer 12-1 burst that took advantage of five Lackawanna errors and five kills from the Rams. Hofmann, Brown, and Neurdia Osias (Huntington Station, NY) all added kills late, but WCU ran away for the 25-13 win in set one.

In set two, WCU scored four-straight points to break open the set at 6-2, but the Falcons tried to fight back, taking advantage of a pair of WCU errors and an ace from Nadia Toth (Dalton, PA) to get within 7-5. The Rams responded with three-straight points to go back up 10-5, but the Falcons kept grinding, getting back to 12-9 off a kill from Hofmann and an error from the Rams. WCU expanded the lead back out to seven at 17-10, and led by nine at 23-14 late in the set, but the Falcons rallied with an error and a pair of aces to get within six points at 23-17. WCU got themselves to the brink, but two more errors and a kill by Regan Freas (Louisa, VA) got the Falcons within 24-20 before WCU finally finished off the set.

West Chester led 4-1 early in set three and steadily built out a lead, getting up by six at 10-4 through the first 14 points. A Braziel kill and a Brown ace made it 10-6, and the Falcons hung around down by four through the next few points, before a 4-1 burst put the Rams up 15-8. Lackawanna got things back within five at 17-12, and both teams traded 3-0 runs to get the match to a 20-15 score in the third. Lackawanna pushed to get within 21-17 on a Hofmann kill and an attack error from the Rams, but WCU scored the final four points, three on Lackawanna errors, to end the set and seal the match victory.

Lackawanna College will have to wait until Friday, October 16th, for its next match-up, a 6:00pm ET start at home against Lock Haven University inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.
