MSOC: Afrani Goal Helps Lackawanna Earn Draw With ESU

Wisdom Afrani Scored A Goal With Nine Minutes To Play To Help The Falcons Get A Much-Needed Draw Against The Warriors

10/7/26

DUNMORE, Pa. – A goal in the 82nd minute for Lackawanna College men's soccer helped the Falcons earn a point against East Stroudsburg University in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday afternoon at Schautz Stadium.

The Falcons (1-7-3) had played the Warriors (6-3-4) even throughout the afternoon, but an excellent goal on the break from ESU's Ryan Kiernan had given the visitors the slim lead heading into the final 30 minutes.

Having been here before, Lackawanna College didn't shy away, pressing high for an equalizer. In the 81st minute, Tito Tokunboh-Salako (Columbia, MD) challenged the keeper but missed a shot wide left. On the ensuing goal kick, the Falcons worked hard to win the ball back with their press, and the ball fell to Wisdom Afrani (Accra, Ghana), who unleashed a shot from the top of the box that whizzed past the diving keeper and pinged off the corner of the net, giving Lackawanna a deserved equalizer and setting off a wild celebration on the Lackawanna bench.

The Falcons then worked hard to make that stand up, nearly taking the lead on a dangerous cross that couldn't find a target, and then getting two huge saves in the final two minutes from keeper Kevin Nievas (West Palm Beach, FL), who finished with four saves on the day.

East Stroudsburg outshot the Falcons, 8-7, with a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. Lackawanna had four saves, while ESU had two, and the Warriors had five corner kicks to just two for the Falcons.

The draw is the second point the Falcons have earned against PSAC East competition this season, as Lackawanna drew at home with Millersville last month. Lackawanna College will search for another result this coming weekend, when the Falcons travel to take on Shippensburg University on Saturday, October 10th. Kickoff is set for 2:00pm ET at David See Field in Shippensburg.

The Falcons will return home on Wednesday, October 14th, when Bloomsburg University comes to Schautz Stadium for a 3:30pm ET kickoff.
