MSOC: Salau Equalizer Enough As Lackawanna Draws At Shippensburg

The Falcons Earned Their Third-Straight Result Without A Defeat Thanks To A Malik Salau Goal Late In The First Half

10/10/26

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – An early goal for the hosts threatened to derail a spirited effort from Lackawanna College men's soccer, but the Falcons found the equalizer late in the first half and took another point off a PSAC East opponent, drawing with Shippensburg, 1-1, on the road on Saturday afternoon at David See Field.

The Falcons (1-7-4) came out hot early, but still fell behind when the home-side Raiders (2-5-5) scored a headed goal in the tenth minute. Momentarily set back, the Falcons kept their energy up, out-shooting Shippensburg by an 8-4 margin in the first half. Lackawanna had a good spell of pressure, particularly in the middle moments of the half, forcing a few saves, and the Falcons eventually broke through in the 42nd minute, when Will Clugh (Shippensburg, PA) provided excellent service on a corner kick, with a ball that found the head of Malik Salau (Lagos, Nigeria), who beat the outstretched arms of the keeper to level the score.

Into the second half, the Falcons managed to hang tough, despite a significant uptick in pressure from Shippensburg. Over the first 30 minutes of play, the Raiders had four shots and four corners, forcing a pair of saves from Kevin Nievas (West Palm Beach, FL), but the Falcons held firm and had a few chances themselves to find the breakthrough, but neither team could get ahead and the game ended level.

The Falcons out-shot Shippensburg by a 13-11 margin, with six shots on target. Nievas finished with three saves, while Shippensburg had to make five stops. The Falcons had five corners, while the Raiders had eight, including seven in the second half.

Salau had two shots, both on target, while Wisdom Afrani (Accra, Ghana) had three shots, one on frame. Jozsef Mark Szilagyi (Budapest, Hungary) posted a pair of shots, one on target, while both Dylan Shupp (Bethlehem, PA) and Adrian Argote (Leonardtown, MD) each posted a shot on frame.

The draw is the third-straight result for the Falcons without a loss, and their second-straight draw with a PSAC East opponent. Lackawanna College has another PSAC East opponent at home in its next game, when Bloomsburg University comes to town on Wednesday, October 14th. Kickoff is set for 3:30pm ET at Schautz Stadium in Dunmore.
