DUNMORE, Pa. – Lackawanna College women's soccer had a bad five-minute stretch that turned a manageable deficit into something unbearable, as East Stroudsburg pulled away for the 5-0 defeat of the Falcons on Wednesday afternoon at Schautz Stadium.
Â
The Falcons (1-14-0) trailed at halftime, 2-0, with ESU (6-6-3) posting ten shots to none in the first half, but Lackawanna was still battling into the second half. However, the Warriors found a third goal in the 62
nd minute, then the flood gates opened, as ESU added goals in the 66
th and 67
th minutes to pull away for good.
Â
All in all, ESU had a 30-2 shot advantage, posting 18 shots on target and grabbing 16 corner kicks.
Â
Sophia Arvelo (Allentown, PA) had 13 saves, while
MacKenzie Seifried (Winfield, NJ) and
Brooke Ryder (Turbotville, PA) each recorded shots.
Â
Early on, ESU kept turning the Falcons over in the midfield and kept winning corners. Eventually, the dam broke when a long-distance attempt hit the top of the cross bar, bounced down, and skittered across the line. Lackawanna attempted to kick it off the line, but the assistant referee raised his flag, signifying a goal, and it was 1-0, ESU, in the 31
st minute.
Â
A second goal came in the 42
nd minute, when a tasty through-ball evaded a pair of Lackawanna defenders and found the foot of Alexis McRoberts, who buried the shot in the left corner to make it 2-0, setting the stage for ESU's run in the second half.
Â
McRoberts had a goal and an assist, while Bella Bowen also had a goal and a helper, and Kali O'Connell scored her team-high fifth goal for the Warriors.
Â
Lackawanna College has a week off before its final game of the season on Wednesday, October 28
th. The Falcons will make a trip to take on Mansfield University for a 12:00pm ET kick on the Mansfield soccer field. Earlier this season, Lackawanna beat Mansfield 1-0 on September 9
th for its only win of the year.Â
