SCRANTON, Pa. – A season-high 22 kills from
Jana Hofmann (Colorado Springs, CO) wasn't enough, as Lackawanna College women's volleyball fell agonizingly short of its first win in a five-set thriller with Wilkes University on Wednesday night inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium by scores of 23-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-16, and 15-12.
Â
The Falcons (0-15) led 2-1 after the third set, but fell flat in a fourth set where they only hit .063 and committed five service errors, allowing the Lady Colonels (14-12) to build a steady lead and push the match to a fifth and final set.
Â
In set five, the Falcons led 5-1 through three errors from Wilkes, but the Colonels pulled within 7-4 and then hit a 5-1 run to turn the match on its head and snag a 9-8 lead. The teams would trade 3-1 runs from there, with the Falcons getting within 13-12 after a rare kill from
Adalee Rosado Rivera (Guyama, Puerto Rico), forcing a Wilkes timeout. After the timeout, the Colonels managed to score a kill to get to match point, and then force a reception error to snag the ace and win the match.
