SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College women's volleyball is home this weekend for a pair of tough PSAC opponents, as Shippensburg University and Shepherd University both make the trip to Scranton to take on the Falcons. The Shippensburg Raiders will play against the Falcons on Friday, October 2
nd, with a 6:00pm ET start inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium. On Saturday, October 3
rd, it's turn, as the Rams get started at 11:00am ET against the Falcons inside the Student Union.

The Falcons
Lackawanna College (0-8) has not been in action since last Saturday, hosting West Chester University and falling 3-0 in straight sets to the Rams. WCU posted eleven total blocks and hit .247 for the match, while Lackawanna had 34 combined service and attack errors, hitting just .021 for the day.

Jana Hofmann (Colorado Springs, CO) is second on the team with 40 kills, 1.54 per set, on .016 hitting this year. Hofmann's nine aces are first on the team this season, and her 57 digs are also first on the squad. Jana tied her season-high with seven kills against Kutztown (9/22), posting seven digs and a pair of block assists against the Bears. Hofmann has had seven kills in three separate matches this year. Her season-high in digs came against Messiah, where she posted 13, while also hitting a season-high four aces. Hofmann had four kills and nine digs in the loss to West Chester last weekend. She is a former NJCAA All-American, selected as a first-year player with the Falcons, and was a two-time Region XIX DII Player of the Year.

Third-year outside hitter/middle blocker
Nadia Toth (Dalton, PA) is third on the team with 23 kills through her first eight matches, averaging one kill per set and hitting at .034. Nadia is in a three-way tie for the team-high in total blocks (7.0) and has five digs this season. Toth set a season-high with seven kills on .263 hitting against Monroe earlier this season. She had five kills on a season-best .455 hitting against Kutztown last week. Toth was held to just two kills against West Chester last weekend.

Braziel, a second-year middle blocker, is fourth on the team with 18 kills, averaging one per set, and hitting .015 this season. Braziel has four digs and seven total blocks, tied with Toth and fellow middle,
Neurdia Osias (Huntington Station, NY). Braziel set her season-high with eight kills on .313 hitting against West Chester last weekend. She posted a season-best four blocks against Kutztown last week.

First-year setter
Kady Schreiner (Mountaintop, PA) had a breakout performance earlier in September in her first true action, dishing out 23 assists in the loss for the Falcons against Monroe. Schreiner had not previously appeared for Lackawanna. Schreiner has been in and out with injuries for the Falcons, but she leads the team with 55 assists in her five matches, averaging just over three helpers per set. She also has three aces on the year, and she has ten digs. Schreiner had 12 assists and a pair of digs against Kutztown in four sets last week. She had eleven assists and a kill against West Chester last weekend.

Third-year libero/defensive specialist
Adalee Rosado Rivera (Guyama, Puerto Rico) is second on the team with 35 assists this season in her seven matches, posting four kills and five aces, second on the team. Rosado Rivera is second on the season with 44 digs. She had a combined 18 assists and 17 digs in two matches on 9/12, posting two kills, seven assists, and 13 digs in the loss to Messiah, and then eleven more assists, her season-high, against Notre Dame. She had seven assists and a kill against ESU on September 15
th. Rosado Rivera had one kill, one assist, and five digs against WCU.

Coach
Shelby Reese is in her fifth season in charge of the program, and she's hoping to establish the baseline and foundation for her program as the transition to the NCAA and Division II really begins to take shape for the Falcons. Last year's squad began peaking at the right time, winning a flurry of matches in the final week of the season to enter the playoffs with some momentum and make the Region XIX championship game for the third year in a row, before falling to Monroe in straight sets.

Reese has won 45 matches in her four years with the Falcons, including 17 in 2024, and 14 matches and a Region XIX championship in 2023. Before her time at Lackawanna, Reese was the head coach at NCAA Division III Cedar Crest in Allentown, winning 86 matches and getting the Falcons to their first-ever NCAA tournament in 2021.

The Raiders
Shippensburg, picked to finish first in a tough PSAC East this season, is bubbling under at 10-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play, sitting in fifth-place at the moment. The Raiders enter Friday after losses to Shepherd and Lock Haven, and wins against Bloomsburg and Chestnut Hill. The Chestnut Hill match, a three-set sweep, happened this past Wednesday, where Shippensburg hit .145 for the match but held Chestnut Hill to -.023 hitting. CHC had 30 attack errors on the night.

Shippensburg is hitting .175 this season, while their opponents are at .142. The Raiders have 674 kills and 299 errors in attack, averaging 12 kills per set. Shippensburg average two aces per set this season on serve, while their opponents are at 1.6 aces per set. The Raiders are strong at the net, posting 2.2 blocks per set this season. Their opponents are at 1.8 blocks per set, and post 17.8 digs per set this year.

Senior middle hitter Hailey Cappleman leads the Raiders with 130 kills in 16 matches this season, averaging 2.32 kills per set and hitting at .257, second on the team amongst the main players. Cappleman also leads the Raiders in aces with 22 this season. Cappleman is also strong at the net, posting 53 total blocks, including 46 block assists this season. She has six matches with double-digit kills, with her season-best coming against Wheeling, posting 13 kills on .313 hitting in a four-set loss. Sophomore outside hitter Elise Bragg is second on the team with 121 kills this season, averaging 2.20 per set and hitting at .143 for the year. Bragg has eight service aces and is fourth on the team with 128 digs, while posting 15 total blocks this year. Bragg has five matches with ten or more kills, including two where she went for her season-best 14. Bragg posted 14 kills in a three-set sweep over Daemen University back on August 28
th, and then had 14 again in the five-set win against Walsh on September 4
th. Bragg had eleven kills in a four-set loss to Lock Haven last weekend, and she posted six kills and nine digs in the win against Chestnut Hill on Wednesday.

Senior middle blocker Natalya Montague is third on the team with 114 kills, averaging just over two kills per set and hitting a team-best .258 on the season. Montague is second to Cappleman in total blocks, posting 48 stuffs, including a team-high eleven solo blocks, this season. She has four matches with ten or more kills, including a season-best 12 kills against Lock Haven last weekend. She had seven total blocks against West Chester back on September 18
th, a season-high. Montague had four kills on .231 hitting in the win against Chestnut Hill earlier this week.

Junior outside/right-side hitter Clara Wildermuth has 101 kills this year in 16 matches, averaging just under two per set and hitting at .163 this season. She has 21 digs and 33 total blocks, including 26 block assists this season. Wildermuth has three matches with ten or more kills, posting a season-high 13 kills on .313 hitting in the win against Walsh on September 4
th. Wildermuth had just one kill against Chestnut Hill in one set on Wednesday.

Junior setter Jaiden Anderson leads the Raiders in helpers, posting 333 assists through her 16 matches. Anderson averages just under six assists per game, and she has 14 service aces this season, while also posting 14 kills. She's second on the team with 141 digs this year. She has eight matches with 20-or-more assists, posting a season-high 35 in the loss to Lock Haven last weekend. She had 31 assists against Walsh on September 4
th, and posted 27 assists in a three-set sweep over West Liberty on September 12
th. Anderson has seven double-doubles this year, with assists and digs, and she posted a season-best 19 digs against Fairmont State in a four-set loss on September 12
th. She had 14 assists and 13 digs against Chestnut Hill on Wednesday.

The head coach for the Raiders is Leanne Piscotty, now in her 22
nd season as the head coach at Shippensburg. Piscotty is the winningest coach in Shippensburg's women's volleyball history, posting 473 wins in her 22+ seasons in charge. She's a five-time PSAC East Coach of the Year, as well as a 2015 AVCA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. She has 17 winning seasons, eight NCAA tournament berths, and a 2015 PSAC championship to her credit. 2015 was her best season, when the Raiders won 30 matches and won the PSAC championship. Piscotty has coached 54 All-PSAC players, including five PSAC Freshman of the Year candidates and a PSAC Player of the Year in 2013. Piscotty, a Shippensburg native, was an outstanding multi-sport athlete at Shippensburg Area, before graduating and moving on to Penn State, where she played women's volleyball under legendary coach Russ Rose. While there, she was a two-time first-team All-American selection by the AVCA and won the Big Ten Player of the Year in 1992. She moved on to coaching under Rose for two seasons after finishing her playing career, and then coached later in the 1990s at Bradley University for two seasons, prior to eventually coming to Shippensburg.

The Rams
Shepherd (13-1) comes into the weekend on a five-match winning streak and first in the PSAC East standings. The Rams, prior to facing Lackawanna this weekend, will take on East Stroudsburg on Friday, October 2
nd. Shepherd was last in action last Saturday, taking on the Huskies from Bloomsburg at home, and winning in four sets. After a 25-15 first set, Bloomsburg pushed the rams and won 25-20 in set two, but the Rams clamped down defensively, holding the Huskies to just .080 hitting in sets three and four, while hitting .381 themselves in the final two sets to run away with the win. Shepherd hit .387 for the match.

The Rams are hitting .265 for the season this year, posting 579 kills and 180 errors, while holding their opponents to .110 hitting on 466 kills and 288 errors. Shepherd averages 2.5 aces per set, while giving up 2.2 aces per set this season. The Rams average just under two blocks per set at 1.9, while their opponents are at 1.7 blocks per set. The Rams have 16.3 digs per set this season, while their opponents average 13.6 digs per set this year.

Sophomore outside hitter Ada McCoy leads the team with 144 kills, 3.43 per set, in 14 matches this season. McCoy hits at .252 and is second on the team with 20 aces on the year. She has 52 digs on the season and has posted 20 total blocks, third on the team. McCoy has six matches with double-digit kills, including her last four matches. She had a season-best 24 kills on .442 hitting in a four-set win against Concord on September 4
th, posting 15 digs in the win. She had 21 kills in a four-set win against Millersville on September 18
th, the first of her last four matches with ten or more kills. In that stretch, McCoy is averaging 3.9 kills per set, hitting at .264 over her last four games. She had 16 kills on .400 hitting in the win against Bloomsburg last weekend.

Senior outside hitter Amya Davis is second on the team with 131 kills this year, averaging just over three kills per set in her 14 matches. She is hitting at .293 and has 17 aces, third on the team. Davis has 55 digs and 15 total blocks on the year. Davis has eight matches with ten-or-more kills this season, and she has posted double-digits in six of her last seven matches coming into the weekend. She had her season-best 16 kills against Concord on September 4
th in the four-set win, hitting .261 and putting up nine digs. Davis is averaging just over three kills per set in her last four matches, hitting .252 in that span. She had 12 kills on .357 hitting, with three digs and a block assist, in the win against Bloomsburg.

Senior middle hitter Sophia Ryan is third on the team with 95 kills, averaging just over two per set, and she leads the team at .360 hitting this season in 14 matches. Ryan is the top blocker on the team, posting 39 total blocks, including eleven solo stops, and she has six digs this year. She has five matches with double-digit kills, posting a season-high eleven kills twice. She had eleven kills on .267 hitting and four blocks in the win against Concord on September 4
th, then posted eleven kills on .381 hitting in a sweep over Shippensburg on September 19
th. She had four kills and three blocks on .300 hitting in the four-set win against Bloomsburg last weekend.

Junior setter Maggie Smith leads the offense with 442 assists on the year, averaging just under ten helpers per set. Smith also has 16 kills and 15 aces on the year. She's third on the team in digs (94), and has 14 total blocks on the year. She has eleven matches with 20-or-more assists this season. She had 54 assists, a season-best, along with a kill and eight digs in the win against Concord on September 4
th. She posted 48 assists and a season-best 15 digs in the win against Millersville on September 18
th. She has recorded 30 or more assists in her last five matches for Shepherd. She had 36 assists and seven digs, along with a pair of aces, in the win against Bloomsburg last weekend.

The head coach for Shepherd is Alex Hoekstra, now in his 12
th season in charge of the Rams. Hoekstra is a two-time PSAC East Coach of the Year recipient, and he has steadily built the Rams into a perennial contender in the PSAC. His 2024 team won 24 matches, finished 14-0 in the PSAC East, and made the NCAA tournament. In 2022, the Rams were PSAC East Champs and won 21 matches. The 2019 squad was 29-7 and made it to the PSAC tournament finals, qualifying for the NCAA tournament. Hoekstra led the Rams to their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance in 2018, when they were still an MEC member. Hoekstra was an assistant for a season before taking over in 2015, and, before that, spent three years as an assistant coach at Western New Mexico, helping the Mustangs to an NCAA tournament berth in 2013. Hoekstra was an outstanding volleyball player in his time at Mount Olive, where he was third in the country in assists at the Division I level. Hoekstra has won 218 matches in his time in charge at Shepherd.
