EDISON, NJ – A second-quarter drought put Lackawanna College women's basketball in a hole it could never climb out of, as the Falcons fell 82-46 on the road at Middlesex College in a Region XIX Division II contest on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Falcons (7-13, 1-9) tried to keep pace with the home side early, helped by four first quarter points from
Canyah Randle (Scranton, PA), a long two-point jumper from
Desireé Nales (Allentown, PA), and a three-ball from
Abbie Larson (Olyphant, PA), but the Colts (9-14, 3-7) were running on all cylinders, scoring 27 points in the first quarter alone.
Â
A Randle bucket with just a few minutes left in the first quarter was the last made shot for the Falcons for nearly 26 minutes of real time, as Middlesex stretched the lead out to 44-14 before Randle grabbed an offensive board and scored with the left hand late in the second quarter. The Colts led 46-14 at the break and were never really challenged again the rest of the way, even as the Falcons scored 12 and 20 points in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
Â
Randle finished with a team-high 13 points, while
Alania Ortiz (Allentown, PA) scored ten points and Larson put up nine.
Â
The Falcons are in action next on Tuesday, February 3
rd, when they are scheduled to travel to take on Raritan Valley CC in Region XIX DII play. Tip is set for 5:00pm ET in Branchburg, NJ inside Raritan's gymnasium, and the game is the first of a doubleheader, with the men's teams following at 7:00pm ET.
