SCRANTON, Pa. ā Lackawanna College women's basketball played some of its best defense of the season, but the Falcons couldn't overcome nearly 16 combined minutes where they scored just three points, eventually falling 60-42 to the Tribunes from Monroe CC on Sunday afternoon in non-league action inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.
Ā
The Falcons (4-10) had looked like they would withstand a seven-minute span where they didn't score, rallying from down 28-20 at the half to tying the game at 30-30 with three minutes to play in the third quarter. The Tribunes (13-2) buried a three thirty seconds later to reclaim the lead, which kickstarted a 26-3 run over the next nine minutes of game time, blowing open a tight game. The drought for Lackawanna lasted from the three-minute mark all the way to just below four minutes to go in the fourth, with the only points coming from a three-pointer in the corner from
Alania Ortiz (Allentown, PA), who finished with a game-high 16 points. Otherwise, Lackawanna missed 14 shots in that span, while Monroe slowly but surely pulled away.
Ā
Lackawanna hit a 9-0 run to get within 56-42 with ninety seconds to play, but Monroe was never challenged, the visitors saw out the Falcons and sent Lackawanna to its seventh-straight defeat.
Ā
