WBB: Lackawanna Withstands Delaware Tech Rally For Region Win

Abbie Larson Hit Free Throws Late To Help Secure A Crucial Region Win At Home

11/22/25

SCRANTON, Pa. – Sophia Summa and Alania Ortiz each scored 22 points, and Abbie Larson went 3-for-4 from the free throw line in crunch time to help Lackawanna College women's basketball hang on for the 68-64 win over Delaware Tech CC in Region XIX Division II play on Saturday afternoon inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union.

The Falcons (3-4, 2-0) led by as many as 12 at 63-51 with 6:39 to go, but Summa (Dunmore, PA) had just been fouled out of the contest. That hampered the Lackawanna offensive attack, as Del Tech (1-7, 0-1) rallied to get it within a point at 65-64 with 12 seconds remaining. DTCC fouled Larson (Olyphant, PA) with ten seconds remaining, and Abbie went 1-for-2 to put the Falcons up two. Del Tech attempted to break down the right sideline, but the ball was tipped and deflected off a DTCC leg and out of bounds with five seconds to go. Larson was fouled again, and this time the sophomore hit both free throws to ice the game for the Lackawanna win.

Lackawanna College fell behind 9-2 early in the first quarter, but the Falcons fought back thanks to five points from Summa and a lay-up from Ortiz (Allentown, PA). Del Tech rebuilt a lead out to 17-11, but Ortiz hit a three, Jana Hofmann (Colorado Springs, CO) scored a baseline jumper, and Summa hit another three to bring the Falcons within 20-19 after one quarter.

DTCC led 30-26 with 5:31 to go in the second, but the Falcons hit an 11-1 run over the final five minutes. The Falcons took the lead on a Summa jumper with 2:45 to go at 33-31, and Desireé Nales (Allentown, PA) and Ortiz followed by lay-ups to give the Falcons the 37-31 lead at the break.

The visitors from Del Tech started the third quarter on an 8-0 run in less than two minutes to take a 39-37 lead. Lackawanna kept things close, then took the lead for good on a steal-and-score from Ortiz to make it 49-47 with 1:33 to play in the quarter. Lackawanna led 53-49 heading into the fourth and started the final stanza with back-to-back Ortiz three-pointers to go up ten, setting up the frantic last seven minutes.

Summa, prior to fouling out, was a thorn in Del Tech's side, scoring 22 points, grabbing seven rebounds, and dishing out four assists. Ortiz was just as effective, going 8-for-16 to score 22 points, grabbing a team-high 14 rebounds, posting six steals, and dishing out five assists. Nales scored 12 points and had five rebounds. Larson posted seven points, six rebounds, and a pair of assists. The Falcons shot 38.1% from the floor and were 15-for-24 for 62.5% from the free throw line. Lackawanna had a 25-21 advantage in points off turnovers, as the Falcons forced 25 DTCC turnovers.

Del Tech was led by Talaney Pierce's game-high 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Kai Burnette added 12 points and eleven assists. Del Tech shot 34.2% from the floor and forced 27 turnovers from Lackawanna College.

Lackawanna is back to action on Tuesday, November 25th, with a contest against Union College (NJ), currently unbeaten (8-0) and the #4 team in the nation. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00pm ET inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium, and the game is the first of a doubleheader, with Lackawanna college men's basketball taking on Montgomery County CC at 7:00pm ET.
