DIX HILLS, NY – A rotten shooting night, coupled with a sloppy performance, doomed a short-handed Lackawanna College women's basketball squad, as the Falcons fell, 96-38, on the road at Five Towns College in non-league action on Long Island Thursday night.
Â
The Falcons were 12-for-52 (23.1%) for the night, scored just six points in two separate quarters, and had 34 turnovers on a night where they just didn't seem to get their feet. The relentless pressure from the Sound (2-1) made it so Lackawanna struggled to get the ball into the front court and into the flow of an offense, right from the outset. Lackawanna had 16 turnovers in the first quarter, alone, and was just 2-for-10 from the floor, falling behind 23-6 after one quarter of play.
Â
The Sound hit 50% from the floor in the second quarter, continuing to put distance between themselves and the Falcons en route to a 45-17 lead at the break, then poured it on in the third quarter, holding Lackawanna to just 2-for-13 in the third quarter as part of a 33-6 stanza.
Â
Five Towns finished shooting 40.6% from the floor, hitting eleven three-pointers, and holding an astounding 67-39 rebounding advantage. The Sound had 39 points off 34 Falcons turnovers, 36 second-chance points, and 28 fastbreak points. Natavia Ross led all scorers with 17 points, while Raine Mears had 16 points and Danica Robles had 13 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
Â
Lackawanna got 13 points from
Sophia Summa (Dunmore, PA), while
Alania Ortiz (Allentown, PA) had a double-double with eleven points and eleven rebounds.
Abbie Larson (Olyphant, PA) had five points and seven rebounds.
Â
Lackawanna will look to get back in the winning column this weekend when Delaware Tech comes to town for a Region XIX Division II contest. Tip is set for 1:00pm ET on Saturday, November 22
nd, and the game will be the first of a doubleheader, with the men's teams following at 3:00pm ET inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.
