SCRANTON, Pa. ā Four players hit double-figures and a short-handed Lackawanna College women's basketball squad beat County College of Morris, 69-56, in its Region XIX DII opener on Tuesday evening inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.

The Falcons (2-3, 1-0) got a team-high 17 points from
Alania Ortiz (Allentown, PA), along with eleven rebounds and six assists, while
Sophia Summa (Dunmore, PA) had 13 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Desireé Nales (Allentown, PA) scored 12 points and had eight rebounds, while
Jasmin Romano (East Stroudsburg, PA) had 14 points off the bench.

Lackawanna College led the Titans (0-1, 0-1) by a 12-8 margin after one quarter, holding Morris to 11.8% from the floor (2-for-17), but only shooting 30% itself. Early in the second quarter, leading 16-12, the Falcons jumped ahead to 22-12 because of a pair of three-pointers from Summa.

Later, at the 5:32 mark, Romano scored on a lay-up on the break off a nice pass from Ortiz to go ahead 26-14. Morris found a way to keep it within ten, getting to a 33-23 margin just before the end of the half.

Lackawanna started the half on an 8-0 run through the first three minutes, extending its lead to 41-23 at 6:46 in the third. Morris, later down 43-25 with six minutes to play, went on its own 8-0 spurt, getting to within 43-33 in just two minutes of game time. Ortiz hit a three to put the Falcons up 13, but Morris answered right back with a three-ball. With under 2:30 to go in the third,
Abbie Larson (Olyphant, PA) scored a lay-up to start a 7-2 ending to the quarter, pushing the Falcons back ahead at 53-38.

The lead ballooned out to 62-40 in the first three minutes, and it never got closer than the final margin at 13 points the rest of the way.

The Falcons shot 36% from the floor, including 22.7% from three-point range, but forced 18 turnovers and had a 17-2 points off turnovers advantage. Meanwhile, Morris shot 23% from the floor and was just 4-for-22 from downtown, while owning a 54-47 advantage on the boards. Caitlin O'Malley led all scorers with 22 points, while Paige Beal had 18 points and 20 rebounds.

Lackawanna College is back to action on Thursday, November 20
th, with a road contest at Five Towns College in New York. Tip is set for 6:00pm ET in Dix Hills on Long Island.
