BLUE BELL, Pa. –
Jana Hofmann provided 12 kills and Lackawanna College women's volleyball swept past the Mustangs from Montgomery County CC on Thursday evening in straight sets (25-9, 25-10, 25-11) in non-region action at the Montgomery County CC gymnasium.
Â
The Falcons (8-9) scored right off the rip with an ace from
Ellania Morales (Wharton, NJ), and it snowballed from there, as Lackawanna built an early lead through the first set. Morales had three aces through the first five points, as Lackawanna took an early 5-0 advantage. Later, Hofmann (Colorado Springs, CO) got the Falcons their first kill to make it 6-2. She quickly followed that up with one of her eleven aces on the evening. It was all part of a 13-0 run from Lackawanna to balloon their lead to 18-2. Montco scored a few points through some errors from Lackawanna, but the Falcons won going away, 25-9.
Â
In set two, Lackawanna got off to a 4-0 start to grab the lead, and led 10-1 through the first eleven points, helped on by a kill, a block, and three of aces from
Regan Freas (Louisa, VA), as well as mistakes from the Mustangs. Montco (2-15) closed to within 13-7, but Hofmann started to take over, sparking the Falcons with three kills in a 6-0 spurt to go ahead at 19-7. The Falcons eventually won on an
Aryanna Brown (Chester, NY) kill on the left side at 25-10 to go ahead 2-0.
Â
Hofmann got the Falcons started with a kill in set three, and Lackawanna went up 5-0 thanks to some failures to return from Montco. The Mustangs made some inroads, cutting into the deficit and getting within 10-7 thanks to some Lackawanna errors. An 8-4 run from the Falcons, fueled by Hofmann and
Neurdia Osias (Huntington Station, NY) combining on some kills, pushed the lead back out to 18-11. That's where the scoring would end for Montco, as Lackawanna ran off the final seven points of the match.
Syriana Smith (Houston, TX) placed five of her eleven aces in that run alone, while Hofmann added another kill. The Falcons won on a hitting error from Montgomery County CC at 25-11.
Â
Hofmann finished with a team-best 12 kills, while Osias had seven kills and a block assist.
Kaitlyn Reed (Aurora, CO) had three kills and a pair of block assists, while Brown added four kills in her first match back in a week.
Â
The Falcons are not back to work until next week with a road match at Northampton CC on Thursday, October 16
th. The match is set for a 6:00pm ET start in Bethlehem, PA.
