SCRANTON, Pa. – Four different players had four kills, and Lackawanna put up 19 service aces on its way to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-16) sweep over Genesee CC in the first event of the 2024 season at the Lackawanna College Student Union on Friday evening.
Â
The Falcons (1-0) were led by first-year player
Jana Hofmann (Colorado Springs, CO), who had nine service aces and four kills, along with a team-high eight digs. Hoffman was a part of a ten-point run in the first set, putting up five of her aces in that run alone, putting Lackawanna up 11-1 early. The gap would tighten, but Genesee would never quite challenge enough to make it close.
Â
On top of Hofmann, the Falcons got four kills each from
Neurdia Osias (Huntington Station, NY),
Angelique Fuentes (Miami, FL), and
Nadia Toth (Dalton, PA). Toth had four service aces, while
Maddilyn Durfee (Buffalo, NY) had three aces and 12 assists.
Â
The second and third sets were a bit tighter, early, but the Falcons pulled away in each set to come out with the sweep to start the season.
Â
Lackawanna has one more scrimmage before resuming the regular season. The Falcons host Keystone College on Wednesday, August 28
th, at 6:00pm ET. Then, the regular season kicks back on Saturday, August 31
st, when Lackawanna hosts PSU Hazleton and Cecil College for a tri-match starting at 10:00am ET at the Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.
