SUPPLY, NC – Lackawanna baseball struggled from start to finish, as Brunswick CC scored runs in five of six innings to post a 17-2 thumping of Lackawanna on Tuesday afternoon in North Carolina.
Â
The Falcons (1-8) actually held a lead early in the first, thanks to a
Brayden D'Amico (Sophomore; Bethlehem, PA) leadoff double, which eventually led to a double-steal with two outs, as D'Amico stole home to give Lackawanna a 1-0 advantage.
Â
In the bottom of the first,
Nick Matson (Redshirt First Year; Nanticoke, PA) took the mound and got two strikeouts on his first two batters, but a solo homer tied the game, and Brunswick knocked him out of the game after forcing a walk on the next batter. The Falcons made a pitching change, and a walk, balk, and then a two-run single gave Brunswick the lead for good at 3-1. That was only the beginning as the Dolphins (14-1) added four more in the second, one in the third, four in the fourth, and five in the sixth to blow the game wide-open. In all, the Fish hit four homeruns and had 14 total hits, pounding the pitching from Lackawanna College.
Â
The Falcons weren't completely silent, getting eight hits as a team, with a pair of doubles, and stealing three total bases, but they were wasteful, stranding 21 runners on the day. Matson, who stayed in to bat after leaving the mound, was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk.
Aydan McNelly (Sophomore; Limerick, PA) was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and
Louis Kegerreis (Redshirt First Year; Murrysville, PA) went 2-for-3.
Â
Lackawanna has now lost three in a row, and eight of its first nine games this season. The Falcons will look to break the trend on Thursday, March 7
th, when they take on PSU York down at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC. First pitch is set for 9:00pm ET, and it will be the first of five games that Lackawanna is scheduled to play in Myrtle.
