SCRANTON, Pa. – For the second straight game, Lackawanna College women's basketball saw a double-digit lead evaporate to just single digits in the fourth quarter. Coincidentally, also for the second straight game, that was exactly what the Falcons were ready for, as Lackawanna held firm and pulled away for the 66-55 non-region win at home against SUNY Herkimer CC on Tuesday evening at the Lackawanna College Student Union.
Â
The Falcons (8-11) built an 18-point lead early in the third, but Herkimer (11-10) managed to whittle that down to just six points at 53-47 with just over five minutes to go. That's when
Nariyah Turner (Sophomore; Philadelphia, PA) sank a corner three-point shot to re-establish a nine-point advantage, and Lackawanna's lead would bounce between eight and eleven the rest of the way, as the Falcons clamped down on the Generals, defensively.
Â
Overall, Lackawanna held Herkimer to just 24.3% shooting, forcing 23 turnovers, while outscoring the visitors 21-11 on points off turnovers. The Falcons shot 33% for the game, and made 19 free throws in the contest. Three players hit double-figures, as
Jayla South (First Year; Long Pond, PA) led the charge with a game-high 18 points, as well as nine rebounds and six assists.
Desiree White (First Year; Carlisle, PA) added 17 points and eight boards, while Turner put up 13 points, four steals, and three assists.
Â
Herkimer was led by Sage Geisler's 16 points and four steals. Layla Ford added eleven points, and Lydia Reimer had nine for the Generals.
Â
Lackawanna will look to make it three-in-a-row when the Falcons take on the Spartans of Northampton CC in a Region XIX cross-divisional contest on Thursday, February 8
th. Tip is set for 5:00pm ET inside the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center on the campus of Northampton in Bethlehem, PA.
