RANDOLPH, NJ – A crucial first half run from the home team spelled doom for Lackawanna men's basketball, as the Falcons couldn't recover and the County College of Morris Titans trampled the visitors the rest of the way, winning 109-84 in Region XIX DII men's basketball action at Morris on Tuesday night.
Â
The Falcons (8-8, 2-4) held a 22-14 lead at the 12:16 mark of the first half, forcing a timeout after back-to-back threes from
Evan Laybourn-Boddie (Scranton, PA) and
Nick Marabito (Upper Darby, PA). Morris (7-8, 3-2) called a timeout and upped their play on both sides of the floor, forcing the Falcons to scramble against pressure on offense, and starting to really put pressure on the Lackawanna defense with aggressive attacks at the rim. The result was a 16-0 run over just 2:41 of game time. The Morris lead grew to double-digits, with Morris shooting hot and the Falcons struggling to keep pace, eventually ending with a 53-44 lead for the Titans at the break.
Â
In the second half, Lackawanna could only get it as close as eight in the first few minutes, as the hot-shooting squad from Morris lit the nets up for the second straight half, putting up 56 points and building lead that stayed near 20 points or more for the rest of the game.
Â
Laybourn-Boddie had 18 points, while
Jasier Carter (North Brunswick, NJ) tied his season-high with a team-best 20 points.
Â
