SCRANTON, Pa. – A woeful shooting performance doomed Lackawanna men's basketball, as the Falcons fell at home to the Penn State Scranton Nittany Lions by a score of 86-63 in the home opener for Lackawanna on Monday night at the historic Student Union gymnasium.
Â
The Falcons (1-1) shot just 28.9% from the field, 3-for-27 overall from the three-point line, and couldn't overcome a double-digit deficit in the second half. The closest Lackawanna could get the deficit to was seven points, but the hot-shooting Lions (2-1) hit 47% from the floor, and got an otherworldly performance from first-year player Mario Oliveri, who scored 33 points on 16-for-20 shooting. Xavier Noble came off the bench to hit six three-pointers and finished with 18 for PSU Scranton.
Â
Lackawanna was led by
Shawnn Smith (Philadelphia, PA), who put up 20 points and had nine rebounds.
Noah McIntosh (Philadelphia, PA) chipped in nine points, three blocks, and three rebounds, while
Evan Laybourn-Boddie (Wilkes-Barre, PA) had six points and five rebounds.
Â
The Falcons are back in action on Wednesday, November 6
th, when they travel to Blue Bell, PA to take on the Montgomery County CC Mustangs, a Division III opponent in Region XIX. Tip is scheduled for 7:00pm ET.
