NEWARK, Del. – Lackawanna College women's basketball put four players in double-figures and handled business on the road, taking down Delaware Tech CC, 81-51, on Saturday afternoon in Region XIX Division II play at Delaware Tech.
Â
The Falcons (6-2, 3-0) were balanced with their top four scorers, as
Jayla South (Long Pond, PA) led the way with 20 points,
Ania Crocker (Freeport, NY) and
Salote Franklin (Philadelphia, PA) each added 15, and
Saraiah Franklin (Philadelphia, PA) pumped in 12.
Â
Lackawanna initially used its defense and transition game to open a 14-2 lead on Del Tech through the first few minutes and held a 22-9 lead at the end of the first. That lead expanded further to 31-13 with about five minutes remaining in the second, but Delaware Tech (0-7, 0-4) hit a 9-3 spurt to end the half down just 34-22.
Â
Del Tech hit the first two buckets of the second half, including a turnaround jumper two minutes in that cut the lead to single-digits at 34-26. DTCC missed a few shots after that to potentially cut the deficit down further, and Lackawanna finally got going when
Alania Ortiz (Allentown, PA) banged home a three on the right wing. South then stole the ball and raced for a lay-up, and Salote stole another pass and hit South for another breakaway that made it a 15-point Lackawanna lead and forced a Del Tech timeout. The lead never got below double-digits the rest of the way, as the Falcons led 60-37 after three, and scored 21 more points in the fourth quarter to finish things off.
Â
Lackawanna has now won three in a row and remains unbeaten through its Region XIX DII schedule. The Falcons are next at home for one more game before the Thanksgiving break, as Lackawanna is set to host #4 Union College (NJ) on Tuesday, November 26
th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00pm ET inside the historic Lackawanna College Student Union.
