Desiree White Scored A Career-High 34 Points To Pace Lackawanna's Win Over Ulster

1/13/24

SCRANTON, Pa. – Desiree White poured in a career-high 34 points, leading the Lackawanna College women's basketball team to a 78-64 win on Saturday afternoon over SUNY Ulster County CC at the Lackawanna College Student Union in non-region NJCAA women's basketball action.

The Falcons (6-7) struggled to break free from the undermanned Senators (5-5) in the first half, but took the lead for good at 21-20 early in the second quarter. A nine-point halftime lead for Lackawanna expanded further, thanks to White (First Year; Carlisle, PA), who scored 18 of her 34 in the second half, going 8-for-12 from the field. Lackawanna shot 48.5% in the second half, scoring 41 points and building a lead that got as high as 22 points. The Falcons forced 16 turnovers, eight on steals, and outrebounded the visitors by a whopping 61-to-39 margin, with 21 offensive rebounds leading to 16 second-chance points.

White led all scorers with 34 points on 14-for-29 shooting and four made three-pointers. Jayla South (First Year; Long Pond, PA) had 22 points and ten rebounds for a double-double, while Saraiah Franklin (First Year; Philadelphia, PA) had seven points and a team-high 15 rebounds. Nariyah Turner (Sophomore; Philadelphia, PA) and Semaji Young (First Year; Philadelphia, PA) each had six points and five assists.

Ulster shot 31.9% for the game and made seven three-pointers, six coming from Maria Bacijalupo, who scored a team-high 25 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Bryanna Sanders had 24 points and a game-high ten assists for the double-double.

Lackawanna has another non-region contest next on the schedule, when the Falcons are set to host the Montgomery College Raptors on Tuesday, January 16th. That game is currently set for a 5:00pm ET tip-off inside the Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.
