WBB: Sullivan Knocks Off Lackawanna In First Game Post-Break

The SUNY Sullivan County CC Generals Overwhelmed Lackawanna College In The First Game Of The 2024 Portion Of The Schedule

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Brianna Jackson hit seven three-point shots and scored 29 points, as the visiting SUNY Sullivan County CC Generals overwhelmed Lackawanna College in Scranton, 85-67, at the Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium on Thursday night in non-region NJCAA women's basketball action.
 
The Falcons (5-7) had the game tight, trailing 13-11 past the midway point of the first quarter, but the Generals hit a 9-2 run to close the half, then used their fast-break offense to pull away from the Falcons. Sullivan (14-2) shot 47.5% from the field in the first half, and got 18 points from Jackson, who made four first-half three-point shots. The Falcons were 30% from the field, and trailed 44-24 at the halftime break.
 
The lead ballooned as big as 27 points at 68-41, but Lackawanna played with pride in the fourth quarter to close within the final margin. Jayla South (First Year; Long Pond, PA) led Lackawanna with 23 points on 8-for-18 shooting, while Desiree White (First Year; Carlisle, PA) added 14 points, and Saraiah Franklin (First Year; Philadelphia, PA) chipped in ten points and seven rebounds. The Falcons shot 37% from the field for the game, and went 17-for-23 from the free throw line, but committed 17 turnovers and made just two three-point shots, while getting outrebounded 61-to-38. It was the first game for Lackawanna since December 16th.
 
The Generals shot 42% on the night, and all seven of their three-point makes came from Jackson. Aside form her 29 points, Jackson also had six assists. Shonyae Edmons finished with 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Brieanna Maple scored 14 points off the bench. Tamia Maxwell had a game-high 12 assists.
 
Lackawanna will get back to work on Saturday, January 13th, when it is set to host the SUNY Ulster County CC Senators. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00pm ET, and it will be the first game of a doubleheader, with the men's teams to follow at the Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.
