SCRANTON, Pa. --Â Lackawanna College kept its winning streak rolling, taking a pair of matches in tri-match action at home on Saturday afternoon in Scranton.

The Falcons (5-3) defeated Delaware Tech CC by a 3-1 margin in the first session, then took down Chesapeake College by a 3-1 score in the final sessions of the day at the Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.

Lackawanna came out on fire in the first set against Delaware Tech, as
Angelique Fuentes (First Year; Miami, FL) opened the scoring with a kill, and the Falcons jumped out to a 13-4 advantage, forcing a timeout. The score got as close as 13-7, but the Falcons went on a killer run, highlighted by mistakes from Del Tech and some nifty offense, to close the set on a 12-3 run and win 25-10.

Delaware Tech rallied to tie things up at 1-1, but the Falcons bounced back, taking sets three and four by scores of 25-18 and 25-17 to secure the win. The match was highlighted by multiple rallies that went long, but the Falcons made fewer mistakes than Delaware Tech to come away victorious.

After Chesapeake swept past Delaware Tech in the second match, the visiting Skipjacks took on the Falcons in the third and final match of the day.

Lackawanna jumped out to an 8-4 advantage in the first set, but Chesapeake rallied to get it to 9-9 and force a Falcons timeout. Lackawanna come out firing after the timeout, using an 8-2 run to re-capture the lead at 17-11, but the Skipjacks slowly chipped away again, eventually tying the set at 22 and then surged ahead to take set one, 25-23.

That woke the Falcons up for set two, as Lackawanna cruised 25-10 to tie the match. In the third set, the Falcons took an early lead, but Chesapeake rallied once again to get it to 14-14. A service error gave the Falcons the lead back, and another error on the Skipjacks, followed by a kill from
Gabriela Gomez (First Year; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) gave the Falcons a three-point advantage. Chesapeake got it even at 19, but the Falcons built another lead out to 23-21, then got a hitting error from the Skipjacks and a block at the net from
Zaliyah Small (First Year; Scranton, PA) to take set three at 25-21.

In the final set, Chesapeake hit the front, taking an early 5-0 lead over the Falcons, and then ballooning that lead out to 12-3. But, the Falcons never panicked, and the deficit slowly shrank as the Lackawanna mistakes disappeared. Gomez got Lackawanna three straight points, to start the comeback, getting a kill and back-to-back service aces. Later, the Skipjacks had an 18-13 lead, but Lackawanna once again rallied, highlighted by more strong play right at the net by Small. Eventually, the Falcons tied things up on a hitting error from Chesapeake to make it 21-all. Both teams fought hard over the next several points, and Chesapeake had set point at 24-23, but
Nadia Toth (First Year; East Benton, PA) looped a kill from the right side to tie things back up. Then, a hitting error put the Falcons a point away, but Chesapeake eventually won a 30-second rally to tie it back up at 25. Lackawanna broke serve with a Fuentes kill on a bad overpass, and then won the match when
Maddilyn Durfee (First Year; Buffalo, NY) scorched a serve off a Chesapeake defender, bouncing out of play for an ace and the Falcon victory.

Lackawanna College has now won five-straight games, and the Falcons will look to keep that rolling on Tuesday, September 19
th, when they travel to take on the Mustangs of Montgomery County CC in Blue Bell, PA.
