Lackawanna College Has A Pair Of Non-Region Doubleheaders On Tap To Start The Weekend

SCRANTON, Pa. – Lackawanna College softball has a pair of non-region doubleheaders on Thursday and Friday, as the Falcons take on SUNY Onondaga and Hagerstown CC on the road to start the weekend.
 
On Thursday, April 20th, the Falcons travel north to Syracuse, NY to take on SUNY Onondaga CC for a doubleheader starting at 3:00pm ET at the Onondaga Softball Complex.
 
On Friday, April 21st, the Falcons head south to Hagerstown, MD to battle with the Hagerstown CC Hawks in doubleheader action, starting at 3:00pm ET at the Hagerstown softball field.
 
Neither doubleheader has a video livestream available.  
 
About The Falcons
The Falcons (20-13) went 3-5 last weekend, starting by dropping two games to County College of Morris, before earning splits with Chesapeake College, Monroe College, and Delaware Tech CC. The DTCC one was the most impressive from the Falcons, as Lackawanna won game one in ten innings, 3-2, thanks to a walk-off RBI single from Madison Maloney (Scranton, PA). The Falcons got ten innings of solid pitching from Allyson Lemerise (Catonsville, MD) to secure the upset win. Del Tech bounced back and won game two, 8-3. Lackawanna is 1-0 this year already against SUNY Onondaga, having defeated the Lazers 11-10 last month. In that game, both teams traded the lead back and forth, but the Falcons were the ones to come out on top, thanks to a Krista Scoblick (Harvey's Lake, PA) two-run homerun in the top of the seventh. The Falcons are hitting .319 on the year, with a .899 OPS this season. Lackawanna College has 113 extra base hits, including 80 doubles and 22 homeruns on the year. The Falcons are slugging at .498, and have drawn 105 walks on the year. They have scored 247 runs in 33 games, at 7.5 runs per game this year. Lackawanna has a .401 on-base percentage this season, and is 47-for-53 on the base paths this season. In the circle, the Falcons have a 5.20 ERA, allowing 193 runs on 276 hits in 208.2 innings pitched so far this season, while striking out 134 batters and allowing 92 walks. Opponents are hitting .307 against Lackawanna College this year.  
 
Right fielder Catarena Sommers (Windham, OH), a second team All-Region XIX selection from last year, is hitting .367 so far this year, with 33 hits, first on the team, and a team-high 32 runs scored through 30 appearances. Sommers has drawn ten walks this season, and has a 1.025 OPS. She's got 26 RBI, second on the team, and 12 doubles and 15 extra base hits on the season. Cat has a .436 OBP this season, and has stolen a pair of bases this season. Sommers has nine multi-hit game so far this season, but was held without a hit in seven at-bats against Delaware Tech on Sunday. Against Onondaga, she was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI with a double.
 
Left fielder Madison McVicar (Blakely, PA) is second on the team with 32 total hits this season, and has a .330 batting average so far this season. McVicar, a second team All-Region XIX selection last year, has a .981 OPS, and is tied for second on the team with 25 runs scored this season. McVicar leads the Falcons with 13 doubles this year, and has a team-best 17 extra base hits in total this season. She's got a .414 OBP, drawing 12 walks, tied for second on the squad. She has driven in 22 RBI, third on the team this season, and has a .567 slugging percentage. She's also got seven steals, tied for first on the team this year. McVicar has eight multi-hit games this year, but was held to just one hit in seven at-bats against Delaware Tech on Sunday, scoring a run, driving in another, and posting a double as her lone hit against the Terry Hawks in two games. McVicar was 1-for-3 with two RBI, a run scored, and a double against Onondaga last month.  
 
Shortstop Madison Maloney (Scranton, PA) has 30 total hits this season, and has a .333 batting average so far this year. Maloney has scored 24 runs, fourth on the team, and has eight extra base hits. She's drawn 12 walks, tied for second on the squad, and has a .856 OPS. She also is tied with McVicar for the team lead in steals with seven swipes on the season. Maloney has six doubles and two triples, and 15 RBI on the year. Madison has nine multi-hit games on the year, and was a combined 2-for-8 with an RBI, the one that won game one, against Delaware Tech on Sunday in two games. Maloney was 2-for-4 last month against Onondaga, hitting a double and scoring a pair of runs.
 
First base player Gabby Wettig (Manheim, PA) has 27 total hits this season, posting a .386 batting average in 25 games. Wettig has a .948 OPS on the season, with 14 RBI and nine doubles this year. Wettig has a .434 on-base percentage, drawing five walks this season, and has 17 runs scored this year. Wettig has eight multi-hit games this season, and went a combined 1-for-6 with a double and an RBI against Delaware Tech in two games. She was great last month against Onondaga, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored.   
 
Outfielder Krista Scoblick (Harvey's Lake, PA) has appeared in 27 games, and has put up an impressive .394 batting average, with a 1.270 OPS this year. She's got 26 hits, fifth on the team, and has driven in a team-high 29 RBI on the season, with 14 extra base hits this season, including a team-high seven homeruns. Scoblick has drawn three walks this year, and has a slugging percentage at .833, best on the team. Scoblick has 23 runs scored this season, fifth on the squad, and is 4-for-5 on steals this season. She has four multi-hit games, and was a combined 3-for-6 with a double and two runs scored in two games against Delaware Tech. Scoblick had the game-winning pinch-hit homerun against Onondaga last month.
 
Third base player Skylar Borthwick (Pittston, PA) has 23 total hits and is hitting .324 this season. Borthwick has a 1.004 OPS, and has scored 25 runs, tied with McVicar for second on the team this year. Borthwick has 21 RBI this year, fourth on the team, and has five doubles and three homeruns, tied for second on the team. Borthwick has drawn 13 walks, a team-best, and has a .455 on-base percentage. She also has three stolen bases on the season. Borthwick has seven multi-hit games this season, but was held hitless in seven at-bats against Delaware Tech in two games on Sunday. Skylar was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI against Onondaga last month.
 
Catcher Gwen Balavage (Avoca, PA) has 21 total hits in 25 games, hitting .350 on the season. Balavage has scored eleven runs and driven in 16 RBI this year. Gwen has three doubles, a triple, and a homerun for the Falcons. Balavage has a .877 OPS, with a .483 slugging percentage, with five drawn walks and two stolen bases this season. Balavage has five multi-hit games on the year, but was held to a combined 0-for-5 on Sunday afternoon in two games against Delaware Tech. Gwen did not play against Onondaga last month.  
 
Pitcher Allyson Lemerise (Catonsville, MD), who also doubles at third base when she's not pitching, has a 3.88 ERA in a team-high 70.1 innings with a 7-4 record this year. Lemerise has given up 48 runs, 39 earned, on 79 hits, striking out 46 and walking 33. Lemerise is holding opponents to a .284 batting average, and has won three of her last four starts. Lemerise got the win in her last start, where she pitched ten innings on Sunday against Delaware Tech, giving up two runs, one earned, on six hits and striking out six in a 3-2 extra innings victory for Lackawanna College.  
 
Pitcher Alivia Graber (North Syracuse, NY) has thrown 66 innings so far this season, going 6-5 with a 7.00 ERA on the year. Graber has allowed 86 runs, 66 earned, on 105 hits, striking out 46 and walking 34 this year. Graber's opponents are hitting .342 against her this season. Graber has struggled as of late, dropping three of her four starts this past weekend, including her last start, going 4.1 innings and giving up five runs on nine hits against Delaware Tech on Sunday.  
 
Tess Ruschman (Easton, PA), normally at second base for the Falcons, also doubles as a pitcher, going 3-2 with a 4.83 ERA in ten appearances this year. In 37.2 innings of work, she's given up 33 runs, 26 earned, on 52 hits, striking out 21 and walking nine. Opponents are hitting .302 against Tess this year. Ruschman pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief last Friday for the Falcons in a 7-6 loss to Chesapeake, and dropped her last start, where she was shelled by Monroe for eight runs on 14 hits in five innings of what was an 8-0 loss for Lackawanna College.
 
The Falcons are coached by Jeff Pittsman, entering his 12th season at the helm for the Lackawanna softball. Coach Pitt was hired as the head coach in 2012, and was tasked with rebuilding the program from the ground up. Low in enthusiasm and overall numbers, coach Pitt got the Falcons through a tough first year to become immediately competitive in year two, improving by 13 wins in just one season. The next year, the Falcons finished .500, and by 2016, the Falcons won 20+ games for the first time in a while, and made the Region XIX playoffs, getting coach Pittsman the EPAC Coach of the Year. he won it again in 2017, when Lackawanna went 24-14 and won the Region XIX championship, their first since 2002. The Falcons won 29 games in 2018, making the Region XIX playoffs once again, and won 34 games in 2019, once again qualifying for the Region XIX tournament. In 2022, Pittsman got the Falcons to a 31-22 overall record and once again making the Region XIX tournament. Pittsman is 219-186 in his career at Lackawanna, with a Region XIX championship and two 30+ win seasons to his credit.
 
About SUNY Onondaga
The Lazers of Onondaga (11-11) enter Thursday's contest after winning three of their last four, including a doubleheader split with Hudson Valley CC this past Sunday. In game one, the Vikings no-hit the Lazers for a 9-1 decision, while Onondaga bounced back in game two, scoring seven runs in the first inning and withstanding a furious rally from Hudson Valley to hang on for the 9-7 win to earn the split.  
 
Onondaga averages .319 at the dish so far this season, and has a team OPS of .848 on the year. The Lazers have scored 159 runs in 22 games, a 7.2 runs per game average, and have 180 hits, with a .428 on-base percentage. The Lazers have 42 extra base hits, including 32 doubles, while drawing 88 walks and striking out 103 times. The Lazers have 65 stolen bases this year, and are slugging at .420 this season. The pitching staff has a combined ERA of 5.65 this season, allowing 161 runs, 100 earned, on 195 hits in 124 innings pitched this season. The Lazers have struck out 103 batters, while walking 60 this season.
 
Bianca DeSellems leads the Lazers with 27 total hits this season, and a .386 batting average. DeSellems has a .935 OPS, scoring 16 runs so far this year. DeSellems is second on the team with 18 RBI, and has a .449 on-base percentage, drawing eight walks on the year. DeSellems has seven doubles, a team-high, and has six stolen bases, fourth on the team this season. DeSellems has seven multi-hit games, but went a combined 1-for-7 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored in two games against Hudson Valley. She was 0-for-3 with a run scored last month against Lackawanna.  
 
Sophia D'Arcangelis is second on the team with 24 total hits this season, averaging .348 at the plate. D'Arcangelis has a .862 OPS in 21 games, scoring a team-high 32 runs this year. Sophia has a double and a triple, along with just four RBI, but has a .471 OBP, third on the team. She has drawn a team-best 16 walks, and has a team-high 20 stolen bases this season. D'Arcangelis has seven multi-hit games, and was a combined 1-for-6 with two runs scored in the doubleheader split with Hudson Valley on Sunday. She was 0-for-3 with two runs scored against Lackawanna last month.  
 
Jenna Mills has 23 total hits this season, and is hitting at .365 on the campaign. In 21 games, Mills has a .973 OPS, boosted by her .492 slugging percentage and her team-high .481 OBP. Mills has 17 RBI, third on the team, and has two of the five homeruns for the Lazers this year. She has 12 runs scored this season, and has drawn eleven walks, tied for second on the team this season. Mills has five multi-hit games this year, and was 1-for-5 with a run scored in two games against Hudson Valley on Sunday. Mills was 1-for-3 with a run scored last month against Lackawanna College.  
 
Zoe White has 23 total hits, and is a .354 hitter on the year. White leads the team with 23 RBI this season, putting up three doubles and a pair of triples, and has scored 21 runs, second on the Lazers this season. She has an OPS at .911, and has drawn eleven walks, tied with Mills for second on the team. White is the second-most dangerous baserunner for the Lazers, with 15 steals this year. She has nine multi-hit games on the season, including two of her last three games, and was a combined 2-for-8 with a double and two RBI in two games against Hudson Valley on Sunday. Against Lackawanna, she was 2-for-5 with a run scored, a double, and three RBI.
 
Aubrey Fraher has 17 total hits on the year, and is hitting at .315 this season. Fraher has a 1.024 OPS in 20 games, first on the team, and has a team-high .593 slugging percentage. Fraher has eight extra base hits, with a team-high three homeruns, and has eleven RBI this season. Fraher has 17 runs scored this season, third on the team, and has nine walks this season. Fraher has five multi-hit games, and was a combined 0-for-1 in two games against Hudson Valley on Sunday. She was 0-for-2 with a run scored against Lackawanna last month.
 
Carly Cinquemani has 16 total hits and a .271 batting average so far this season. Cinquemani has 13 runs scored in 20 games played, and has four doubles for 15 RBI this season. Cinquemani has three walks and has been hit by five pitches this season, while stealing a pair of bases on the year. She has three multi-hit games, including going 2-for-4 with a run scored, two RBI, and a double against Lackawanna last month. She went a combined 0-for-3 on Sunday against Hudson Valley, scoring a run and getting an RBI.   
 
Emma Kelly has 15 hits in 20 games this season, a .341 batting average and a .928 OPS this year. Kelly has a .473 on-base percentage, drawing five walks and getting hit by a team-high six pitches, and has ten RBI and 13 runs scored this year. She's also got eight stolen bases this season. Kelly has two multi-hit games on the season, and didn't register an at-bat, but managed a pair of runs and an RBI against Hudson Valley in two games on Sunday. She was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a double against Lackawanna last month.
 
Trista DeLong is the pitcher with the most innings pitched, making seven starts in 17 appearances, with a 4.8345 ERA in 50 innings pitched. DeLong has given up 61 runs, just 31 earned, on 80 hits, with a team-high 51 strikeouts and 19 walks on the year. She's gone 0-1 in her last two starts, giving up nine runs, six earned, on 12 hits to Hudson Valley on Sunday in the game that the Lazers were no hit. She pitched 0.1 innings of relief for Onondaga in the game against Lackawanna back in March.  
 
Aubrey Fraher is second on the team with 31.1 innings pitched, posting a 6.48 ERA on the year. She's given up 43 runs, 29 earned, on 48 hits, while striking out 17 and walking 22 on the year. Fraher started the second game against Hudson Valley on Sunday, but only lasted one inning, despite not allowing a hit or a run. She took two losses in a row before that, dropping a start to Herkimer on April 13th in the first game of a doubleheader, giving up nine runs in four innings, then getting the loss in a relief appearance in game two, giving up four runs on six hits in three innings.  
 
Robert Bates is the head coach for Onondaga, now in his 7th season as the man in charge. Bates was an assistant with the 2016 squad before being named head coach in August 2016, and helped the Lazers win a second straight Region III championship and send them to the NJCAA DIII National Tournament for the second straight year. As a head coach, he's got a pair of Region III championships and a pair of national tournament appearances. He has an extensive background of travel and AAU softball, as well as coaching experience at the junior college level (Assistant at Cayuga CC) and HS level (Assistant at Waterloo Central HS). In his time at Onondaga, he has a 112-81 career record.
 
About Hagerstown CC
The Hawks (5-13) come into Friday's contest after playing a doubleheader at home against WVU Potomac State College, losing by scores of 15-0 and 19-2. Hagerstown has dropped four straight, and were no-hit in the 15-0 game one loss to the Catamounts from Potomac. WVU did all of its damage from the third inning on. In game two, Hagerstown scored a run in the first to cut an early deficit to 3-1, but the Catamounts scored the next eight straight, then dropped eight more on the Hawks in the fifth to pull away for the 19-2 win.
 
Hagerstown is hitting .316 this season as a team, with a .842 OPS this season. The Hawks have scored 83 runs in 18 games, a 4.6 runs per game average, with 44 extra base hits, including 29 doubles and six homeruns. The Hawks have 105 strikeouts and 35 walks this season, and have 30 stolen bases. Pitching-wise, Hagerstown has a collective 8.05 ERA, with 100 innings pitched and 141 runs allowed on 207 hits. The Hawks have 47 strikeouts and 42 walks this year, and have given up 22 homeruns.
 
Madison Heuer leads Hagerstown with 21 total hits and a .396 batting average this season. Heuer has 17 runs scored, a team-high, and has a .995 OPS, boosted by a .429 OBP. Heuer has four triples, a team-high, with nine RBI this year. She has a team-high eight stolen bases on the year, and has drawn two walks, but has a team-worst 15 strikeouts this year. Heuer has seven multi-hit games this year, but was 0-for-4 against Potomac in two games on Wednesday, with two strikeouts. She has gone hitless in her last three games.
 
Bailey Wilson is second on the team with 20 hits and a .377 batting average. Wilson has a team-high .755 slugging percentage, helping give her a healthy 1.144 OPS on the year. Wilson has eleven runs scored, third on the team, but leads the Hawks in extra base knocks with eleven this year, putting up a team-high three homers, as well as five doubles, for 12 RBI this season, tied for first on the team. Wilson has one walk and a pair of stolen bases on the year. She has seven multi-hit games this season, and was a combined 1-for-4 in two games against Potomac, hitting a solo homerun in game two.
 
Morgan Kolich is third on the team with 17 total hits and a .395 batting average this season. Kolich has a 1.016 OPS this year, with a .581 slugging percentage. She's got a team-high eight doubles and has driven in 12 runs, tied with Wilson for first on the team. Kolich has three walks and four stolen bases this season, but has only scored four runs on the year. She's got five multi-hit games on the year, but was held 0-for-4 with a strikeout against Potomac in two games on Wednesday.
 
Payton Kendall has 16 total hits and a .372 batting average this season for the Hawks. Kendall has scored eight runs and hit four doubles this year, driving in nine RBI. She's drawn three walks and stolen a base, while striking out eleven times. Kendall has five multi-hit games on the year, and was a combined 1-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts in two games against Potomac.
 
Sydra Royer also has 16 total hits, posting a .314 batting average on the year. Royer has 12 runs scored, second on the team, and has two doubles, two triples, and a homer on the year, driving in eight runs. Royer has three walks and five stolen bases, second on the team, with ten strikeouts on the year. She has three multi-hit games on the year, all coming in her last five games, and was 1-for-5 combined in two games against Potomac, with a pair of strikeouts.
 
Adrianna Beeler has eleven total hits in 16 games, posting a .268 batting average on the year. Beeler leads the team in walks with eight this season, giving her a .434 OBP, second on the squad. Beeler has scored six runs and has a double and two homers for nine RBI this year. She's struck out 14 times, second-worst on the team, and has three stolen bases. Beeler has two multi-hit games this season, and was 1-for-2 with a run scored and a solo homer against Potomac in game two.
 
Peyton Sheffler has 55 total innings pitched this season, tops on the team, posting an 8.65 ERA. Sheffler has given up 80 runs, 68 earned, on 115 hits, with 29 strikeouts and 29 walks this year. Sheffler has lost her last two starts, including her most recent, giving up ten runs on seven hits in just two innings against Potomac in game two on Wednesday, giving up three homers to the Catamounts.
 
Adrianna Beeler is the other main pitcher for the Hawks, throwing 45 innings on the year with a 7.31 ERA. She has given up 61 runs, 47 earned, on 92 hits, with 18 strikeouts and 13 walks. Beeler lost her last start, game one against Potomac, giving up eight runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings of the 15-0 five-inning loss. She last appeared in game two against the Catamounts, having to pitch three innings of relief, giving up nine runs on 12 hits.
 
Alicen Galanis is the head coach at Hagerstown CC. Galanis is a PA native, hailing from Greencastle, PA, and is a graduate of Shepherd University in West Virginia. Galanis has been coaching softball on a variety of different levels and ages for years.
