WBB: Jackson's Career-High Pushes Lackawanna Past Westchester In Season Finale

Nya Jackson Scored Her Career-High 28 Points, And Lackawanna Overcame A Poor First Quarter To Bury The Vikings

2/19/23

VALHALLA, NY -- After a sloppy first quarter, the Lackawanna College women's basketball team came alive in the second, third, and fourth frames, putting it on the SUNY Westchester Vikings, 81-46, on Sunday afternoon in the final regular season game for the Falcons.

Lackawanna College (11-10) shot just 25% and trailed 13-9 in the first quarter, but then turned around and went 50% from the field the rest of the way forcing 30 turnovers on 21 steals and converting that into 30 points off turnovers. The Falcons got a season-and-career-high 28 points from Nya Jackson (Harrisburg, PA), who went 9-for-17 from the floor and 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Seanlajah Smith (Philadelphia, PA) came off the bench to score ten points, hitting a pair of three-point shots, while Gabrielle Jackson (Darby Twp, PA) had five points, five rebounds, five assists, and a team-high six steals. Mahogony Collins (Harrisburg, PA) had six points, eight rebounds, and nine blocks.

Westchester (6-18) shot just 25% from the floor, and was led by Adriana McFadden, who scored 27 points and put up eight rebounds. Gianna Marziliano added seven points off the bench, while Krismelis Melo had six points and three rebounds.

Lackawanna College now turns its attention to the Region XIX DII playoffs. The Falcons, settled as the third-seed, will be on the road against second-seeded Union County College on Thursday, February 23rd at 6:00pm ET in Cranford, NJ. Lackawanna and Union split their two games this year, with each team winning by 20+ points on its home floor. The other playoff match-up is top-seeded Harcum College hosting fourth-seeded Essex County College on Thursday evening.
