WBB: Falcons Fell Oaks For Third Straight Win

Lackawanna College Women's Basketball Won Its Third Straight Game To Close Out The 2023 Portion Of The Year With A Road Win At Salem CC

Box Score 12/16/23

CARNEYS POINT, NJ – Lackawanna women's basketball widened a narrow gap late in the second quarter, never looking back en route to a 90-59 road win at Salem Community College in Region XIX Division II women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon in southern Jersey.

The Falcons (5-6, 3-3) held a slender 32-24 lead past the midway point of the second frame against the host Mighty Oaks (5-5, 1-5), when a foul on a shot attempt, followed by a technical on the Salem bench, gave Lackawanna a chance to start to build a lead out. Jayla South (First Year; Long Pond, PA) went 2-for-4 on the line, then Zaliyah Small (First Year; Scranton, PA) grabbed an offensive board and put it back up and in. Desiree White (First Year; Carlisle, PA) followed with a lay-up through contact, and, after a Salem bucket on the other end, Nariyah Turner (Sophomore; Philadelphia, PA) popped a three-pointer from the corner to help Lackawanna to a 41-26 with a little over a minute to go in the half. Salem battled, but Saraiah Franklin (First Year; Philadelphia, PA) stole an inbounds pass, whipped a pass to South, and got the assist when South converted on a lay-up at the buzzer that capped a 48-point first half for Lackawanna.

Lackawanna continued to press high in the second half, building a lead that slowly climbed over 20, and then, eventually, 30 points, on its way to a third straight win to close out the 2023 portion of the season. White led the Falcons with 26 points on the day.

The Falcons are now 3-3 in Region XIX play, and sit in fourth in the standings heading into the middle of the season. Lackawanna gets back to action on Thursday, January 11th, when the Falcons are set to host the Generals of SUNY Sullivan CC. Game time is set for 5:00pm ET, and will be the first game of a doubleheader, with the men's teams following at the Lackawanna College Student Union gymnasium.
