MBB: Falcons Secure Region Road Win With Victory At Delaware Tech

Lackawanna Put Four Players In Double-Figures And Led Nearly Wire-To-Wire In A Big Region XIX Road Win

Box Score 11/30/23

NEWARK, Del. – Lackawanna College took an early lead and never looked back, leading nearly wire-to-wire in an 88-73 win on the road at Delaware Tech, snagging the Falcons' first Region XIX victory on Thursday evening at DTCC.

The Falcons (3-6, 1-2), after some back-and-forth, took the lead for good when Pablo Avalos Ortiz (Sophomore; Málaga, Spain) sank a three-point shot from the left wing that made it 5-4 at the 17:30 mark of the first half. That was the start of an 20-2 run that gave the Falcons a 22-6 lead just over eight minutes into the game. Lackawanna never lost the lead from there, holding serve the rest of the way to pick up its first win in Region play this season.

Lackawanna had four players in double-figures, with Amir Mack (Sophomore; Atlantic City, NJ) going for a team-high 20 points. Poplar had 17, Avalos added 15, and Jawane Buckner (Sophomore; Wilkes-Barre, PA) came off the bench to score ten points. Delaware Tech (3-6, 0-2) was led by Keyon Scott, who had 19 points.

The Falcons will next take on their fellow PA rival, Harcum College, in a Division I/II crossover match-up on Sunday, December 3rd. That game will be the second of a doubleheader, with the women's teams playing first at 2:00pm, followed by the men's teams at 4:00pm ET at the Kelly Gymnasium in Bryn Mawr.
